In this interview Mariah discusses her race. She said she considers herself Irish, Black, and Venezuelan. She mentioned if she only considered herself black it would be wrong because she would be denying her Irish and Venezuelan background. I know some of you probably think of Patrick Mahomes as a white man. What race do you consider Mariah based on her response?
In this interview, Mariah Carey can be seen rolling her eyes at the 18:21 part of the video. She did this after the person interviewing her commented on Janet Jackson, Mary J Blige, and Whitney Houston being successful in the 90s along with Mariah. Why was Mariah subtly throwing shade towards them?
Mariah is then asked if there is any competition/rivalry with Whitney Houston and Mariah says not from her side. Throwing shade at Whitney??

There's a later interview than these, from the 2000s, where she says she considers herself black...
Forgive me, because I dont remember what show or platform it was on, but i remember that part of the interview. It's 2025 and that interview was roughly ~20 years ago so I'm not even sure how to find it, but it is younger than the interviews you posted...
To me this is simple, given the fact that most Black Americans have heavy Euro admixture, nearly everyone black is "mixed" so that ain't a thing to me. If you're biracial, by definition of having two parents of different races, then you choose where you are when you're an adult in the way you socialize and live...
Mariah has dated white men and clearly has lived rich, therefore with access to white society, for a long, long time (she's almost 56 years old!!). But she's also dated plenty of black men, and she has socialized in black society for a long time as well, and she had kids with a black man...
Though I do remember my 57-year old mother, who by virtue of age would have a greater memory of this than those of us on here. My mom remembers when Mariah first came out, and her self identification was a big thing, and she said initially Mariah ducked questions about her race, and shunned association with black celebrities. I have no reason to think my mom made this up, and given the fact I'm only 35 and mom is 57, I have no knowledge to refute that there was a time this actually happened...
Mom also acknowledged that, that early Mariah was heavily influenced by Tommy Mottola and as such, was probably discouraged from claiming her blackness. I don't know either way but it makes sense; Mom just said it was strange when the late 90s rolled around and she started associating with hip hop and black entertainers, because the first half-decade plus of her celebrity, you couldn't find her around anyone black, even though it was common knowledge that she had a black parent...
I'd love to go be a fly on the wall for those times, the first ~5 or so years of her career and see how I'd perceive her!
So the way I look at is this. To my knowledge, she's never come out and outright identified herself as a white woman----->but I saw the interview myself when she called herself a black woman. And she has been involved with black pop culture and black entertainers, for majority of her celebrity at this point, and had her children with a black man...
Because of her physical appearance, she barely qualifies as a black woman, but she qualifies, and I don't think she's ever denounced her blackness...
My oldest kids' mom, is "Mariah Carey black". She considers herself a biracial black woman, calls herself a black woman, but if you see her in passing you could read her as a white woman. You have to be right up on her to see her blackness, she has very, very pale skin...
But her dad is black. And when she rocks her hair natural, its black as hell in texture, and she's got a stereotypical black nose. But she has light eyes, her hair changes colors but if you see her in passing, combined with her pale ass skin, my BM hair looks "brunette", so you could take her for a brunette white woman if she has her hair straightened...
My BM has always, in the 10 years ive known her, called herself black. And I would say that, if what my mom says about early Mariah is true, she grew more comfortable in her blackness as she aged...
So she's black to me. Halle Berry isn't though...
Was her father actively involved? She’s not going to deny her mother who raised her. She’s made black music, has black friends, dated black men, and has black children. She could have chosen any race of man to have children with.
My BM doesn't deny her mother, she fukking loves that white woman who raised her
but she's never once called herself "white", or a "biracial white woman"------>she's interchangeably called herself "black" and a "biracial black woman"...
I have an uncle, who has a white girlfriend for the past 5 years or so, and his mom is white, but all 4 of his kids, are with two black women, and he's always considered himself black, and he loves his white mom, too. I remember him telling me, that he always viewed himself thru the lens of his black father, and always knew he'd marry and have kids with a black woman...
I remember he told me when he was 9, he told his mom "I'm black" and she did a double take
she said something like, "you know that you're also white", and he was like "I love my white family, but I'm black"
