Former world champion Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31KOs) would love to return to the ring in a major fight in 2015. Maidana is coming off back to back pay-per-view fights with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in Las Vegas. Maidana lost a close twelve round majority decision in May and then lost a spirited twelve round unanimous decision in September.
Pacquiao is going to defend his WBO world welterweight title on November 22nd against undefeated Chris Algieri in Macau, China.
Maidana says he would be very motivated to get in the ring "against Pacquiao" but also admits that some of his family members would like to see him retire from the sport.
"[Pacquiao] is the biggest thing for me after Mayweather, and [it makes] business [sense to] fight him. There is a desire to stage something here, but it would be very difficult to make a fight so big in Argentina," Maidana said.
Regarding his last fight with Mayweather: "He was very fast, he moved around the ring very well, but I still believe that I can beat it. We failed in reaching the objective, which was to win. I'm very happy with what I did and because I trained very hard. I feel good to fight, and I think I can do it against anyone, but my family does not want [me to continue fighting], so I'm thinking [about what I plan to do in the future]."

Adviser Sebastian Contursi says former welterweight champion Marcos Maidana is open to the possibility of going up to 154-pounds if a big opportunity presents itself. One name they would consider is Miguel Cotto, who holds the WBC title at middleweight but is probably going to return to 154-pounds. Maidana was at one time being considered as a potential opponent for Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.
"We will see next year what big fight can emerge. There are several big names who could face Chino if the weight is 147-pounds, but perhaps if there is a special opportunity, 154-pounds could be considered, for example, against someone like Miguel Cotto - but right now this is mere speculation," Contursi said to ESPN Deportes.
After taking part in back to back fights with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in Las Vegas, Maidana is taking a break until next year.
