Maidana: I Don't Believe Mayweather Wants a Rematch
Posted by: Elisinio Castillo on 5/22/2014 .

By Elisinio Castillo

Former champion Marcos "El Chino" Maidana believes Floyd Mayweather Jr. is not in agreement with doing a rematch, and looking at other options, for his next ring return on September 13th. Maidana did much better than any expected against Mayweather in their welterweight unification on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Mayweather won a twelve round majority decision, with one judge scoring the fight a draw. Many at ringside saw Mayweather as a close winner with a 7-5 edge in rounds.

Maidana has no problem with taking some time off until Mayweather decides to fight him.

"I don't believe that he wants to fight me. I'm waiting for him to give me the rematch," Maidana said to Cadena 3 Radio. "I do not want to fight with anyone other than Mayweather. I'm not interested in a rematch with Amir Khan. I will stay calm and wait for a big fight. I am only 30-years-old, I can still have the pleasure of enjoying my family and come back well rested within a year."

This nikka Maidana out here talking bout pulling a "Robert Guerrero".....sitting out for up to a year waiting on Floyd for a rematch:dead:

Now he's saying he doesnt want the rematch with Khan:rudy:

Funny now he's complaining about a rematch when somebody I know excercised their rematch clause, but Maidana wasnt willing to give them a rematch though:sas2:

So in other words "I'm good right now. I made so much money off this floyd may weather fight, i'm gonna chill and enjoy this money. I don't have the hunger anymore other than to get paid again by taking another floyd fight…"

SMH… If he waits around long enough, he might watch his boxing career fade to black. If floyd don't take the rematch, maidana should focus and get pay back on Amir Khan. The winner of that fight gets floyd after whoever he fights in september. If Maidana knocks Amir Khan out or wins, he will get a lot more for a Floyd rematch than he would now.. Someone like Maidana should definitely stay on his grind cuz it's only so long till he get washed and b thrown to Victor Ortiz status.

And if Khan wins very convincingly, Floyd will definitely fight Khan as like his last fight.

If I was Marcos Maidana, my next options would be either Floyd, Amir Khan, or Adrien Broner. Any of them 3 will bring him a big payday again and he was reason behind all three.

Floyd: Gave Floyd his toughest fight in years....lost a close fight.

Khan: Khan beat him, but Maidana feels like the ref saved Khan and that he can beat him if Khan didnt run. Might be Co-Main Event status on a PPV

Broner: Broner wants a rematch and it was an excellent first fight. Storyline is already there and the fans will be immediately on Maidana's side again....might be Co-Main Event status on a PPV

Instead, he wants to pull the Guerrero and sit on his ass with 1.5 million USDs, in Argentina where that money goes further, and wait for Floyd again.....even up to a year:snoop:

Who else can Maidana fight if he doesnt get the rematch, like he believes?

He doesnt want to fight Khan. AB is at 140 now. Thurman or Porter? Neither one of them are BIG money opportunities for him and pose a high risk/low reward situation for him. Alexander? Guerrero? Malignaggi? Nah.

I dont know who he would fight except Floyd that he would be happy with:manny:

so dude only wants that mayweather money..I dont know a year long lay off :patrice:I would use the momentum gained from the fight with may and go fight amir khan he would make a good bit of coin not mayweather coin but good. The fight could be promoted as winner gets floyd along side the rematch aspect the casuals would eat it up "thats the guy who gave floyd hell"

I too believe that marcos would beat khan in a rematch..

I think this is all just Maidana being focused on getting the rematch immediately. He isn't thinking about a Plan B because it would be such a disappointment. He feels like he was so close to beating Mayweather on the cards and that he can do it, so why would he want to think about taking a step down in marquee, pay, and competition to even consider Khan or anyone else?

If and when he gets the bad news that Floyd is fighting someone else, then I think he'll consider taking Khan, because that'll be his best path to a rematch, and his people will let him know that.
