The conversation is deeper than the caption reads. I don't disagree with Marc Lamont Hill (for a change). We measure black excellence based on money and fame when the greatest black men in America like MLK, Malcolm X, etc were not wealthy people and may not be considered High Value Men based on our communty's standards and expectations.
Kanye is one of the richest black American's ever but is he black excellence? Yes he and a lot of black streamers have wealth and fame and even influence but at the same time what about dignity?
Yeah and also a lot of these black celebrity “billionaires” aren’t really billionaires. Aside from Tyler Perry who actually controls his infrastructure, they apply inflated valuations on partnerships that can end overnight (eg Kanye) if they step out of line. Also the dominant society uses them to promote the “illusion of inclusion”.
