Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
I would easily bet that the # of engineers that have made that type of money is at least 10x the amount of NFL/NBA/MLB/MLS/NHL players that do.
I'm not saying you're wrong. Or that we even need to argue

I'm very sure there's more stem folks making GOOD money. Upwards of 60k than in sports

But flat out millions. How much work you gotta put in before you make a million a year being an engineer. While literally 100s of new millionaires are made every year through the draft alone

But again. The chances of a kid being one them is fukking impossible when you think of it. But we talking million dollar salary. I'm not sure you gonna be making that before 40-50 unless you invented something or damn near the CEO

The money via education/engineering/sciences takes a little more time to hit, usually in the 30's and up, but the money is better.

I think too many people underestimate the kind of money that can be made via the education route. If we think of every successful company out there, most of them were started by somebody who kept their face in the books. In addition an individual can have this money without necessarily having to sacrifice their body.

This is not to say that I wouldn't encourage someone to pursue playing sports professionally as a way to get rich, but there are other easier ways. Ultimately, you could encourage your son to do both.

My dad's an engineer, he does not make millions of dollars a year, and he definitely isn't baller status.

He lives a comfortable life.

Not sure where you guys get the idea that from. :mjlol:

Let me be clear since my points has escaped you; there are more engineers who have made millions of dollars than there are sports figures who have done the same.

There is no guarantee that you will be rich pursuing either but these are the facts.

As soon as LaDainian Tomlinson retired, he sold his house.

:sas2:

Story link: LaDainian Tomlinson finally sells house

The 2006 NFL MVP sold his property for the list price of $3.495 million to Ray Lucia Jr., chief executive of San Diego-based RJL Wealth Management, said Tomlinson's co-listing agent Daniel Beer.

Tomlinson bought the 13-acre property in 2004 for $3.5 million, and spent an additional $1.5 million to combine two parcels and add features to the house. The home boasts a wine rack, a wall-sized fish tank, a basketball court, golf green, and a bridge over its pool. It also has a movie theater with a 1967 Ford Mustang split in half to create a drive-in movie experience.

Cacs won't allow a black man to have a house like that :troll:

Do you really doubt this?

Anyway, my source is my general understanding of the things. I am an avid sports fan as well as an engineer.

Furthermore forbes has here a simple list of just '100 data analytic startups and their funding'. This is just analytics, not fabrication, not chemicals, not mobile applications, not hardware, not networking etc. So this is just 100 of X.

And if I conservatively assume that 10% (typically 25% goes to the CEO founder) of the amount has gone to the CEO then each of those companies has a millionaire.

Now with respect to the leagues there are only so many positions, and the turnover is not high for those who are actually millionaires.

In addition the forbes 400 has not a single athlete on the list. Not one. Yet it's replete with chemists, engineers and various other individuals who has used education to earn their money.

I was able to find a guy who has made a rough estimate of the percentage of millionaires that are athletes. The number comes out to 0.94%. Less than 1 percent. Question of the Day: What fraction of US millionaires are professional athletes? | Next Gen Personal Finance

Granted these are rough calculations and estimates but I hope you can see where I'm coming from.

(Damn I ain't never gon' get out the red. Somebody negged me for saying there are more millionaire engineers than sports figures. But hey, if you gon' neg, neg then. :mjcry:)

Lastly, I apologize for slightly derailing OP's thread.
