He's not quick enough to keep with Melo when he does that quick move to the hoop, so he sits back to try and stop that then leaves him for the J. It's not a great matchup for Gerald.
I love watching Melo play tho, I'm a 'Cuse guy so no matter where he plays he's always got my respect for 2003.
