The right-wing extremist -- who killed 77 people in a bomb and gun attack on July 22, 2011 -- enclosed a typed list of 12 demands sent to prison authorities in November.

He described as "torture"-like his living conditions, in the high-security unit in Skien in southeast Norway where he serving out a 21-year sentence.

The demands include better conditions for his daily walk and the right to communicate more freely with the outside world, which he argues are in line with European rights legislation.

He also demanded that his PlayStation 2 games console be upgraded to a Playstation 3 "with access to more adult games that I get to choose myself".

Held apart from other prisoners since 2011 for security reasons, Breivik argues that he has the right to a wider "selection of activities" than other inmates to compensate for his strict isolation.

Breivik also wants his standard weekly allowance of 300 kroner ($49, 36 euros) to be doubled, particularly to cover his postal charges from written correspondence.

people should be shytting on norway... 27 years for killing 77 people?

Norway is considered an "advanced" society according to most liberals. Expect nothing but silence and plea copping from the intellectuals on this site. In Africa this nikka would have long ago had a tire put on his ass and set ablaze, but apparently that would be the actions of an "uncivilized" society.

They try to rehabilitate their inmates over there, and do a fantastic job by most measurements. Their prisons are better than most dorm rooms or military barracks here in the US.

They gave him the max sentence but it can be extended indefinitely if they can prove he hasn't been rehabilitated, isn't willing to be rehabilitated or is still a danger to the public, which will most likely be what happens. They don't really view their prison system as revenge-giving like we do here.

Me personally, I think the man should be hanged in a public square.

If you kill 77 people you should not have a chance at rehabilitation.

I dont know anything about their methods, which is why Im asking.

How is making a prison as comfortable as possible going to reform them? Im inclined to assume that a comfortable environment is something an offender would have no problem going back to.
"man, that fagget pissed me off. Im going to kill him. All they're going to do is send me on a vacation anyways".

You would figure that but their crime rates are extremely low and the instances of prisoners doing multiple stints is also very low.

- Norway’s Incarceration Rate Is A Fraction Of That Of The United States: 71 out of every 100,000 Norwegian citizens is incarcerated. In the United States, 743 out of every 100,000 citizens was incarcerated in 2009. The U.S. has the world’s highest incarceration rate.

- Norway’s Prisoner Recidivism Rate Is Much Lower Than The United States’:The recidivism rate for prisoners in Norway is around 20 percent. Meanwhile, it’s estimated that 67 percent of America’s prisoners are re-arrested and 52 percent are re-incarcerated.

So it does work for them.
