I wouldn’t be surprised if the first Helldivers game was originally supposed to be a Starship Troopers game and the licensing agreement fell through for it so they just did this.
What @Canon said, now they fully own helldivers and can add a bunch of whatever into it and not have to worry about it. Like the Automotons and other enemy factions
