U.S. Attorney Williams stated: “As alleged, Michael Smith used AI-generated songs and fraudulent streams to steal millions in royalties that should have gone to legitimate musicians and songwriters."

Why are they painting it like he was stealing from other artists?

Could be an interesting precedent

Using bots for views/streams is common practice these days I wonder how they going to make it stick
Feds make up rules along the way. They pretty much do what they want so if they want him they're gonna make sure they get him.

Schooling people takes forever; don't bother
the spotify piechart breadcrumb royalty model is ass, you can't get paid unless you garner past a certain threshold, which is why spotify itself it making a bunch of AI artists to compete on their own platform to keep more royalties in-house instead of distribute them to real artists, so they are hypocritical at best if these spotify-approved AI artists are getting free exposure on spotify playlists

the question is, will any of the streaming services credit back the people who deserved those royalties if this guy hadn't existed? they will probably sweep this all under the rug in no time, just to not pay out

And industry experts on the coli: all the labels do it, it’s so easy.

Of course they are committing wire fraud for bum ass artists that don’t make them no money
