SACRAMENTO – A fight that broke out at a hip-hop musical festival in a Sacramento park started after some barbecue sauce spilled on someone's shoes and ended with a man dying, according to witnesses.
A 31-year-old man who was punched hit his head on the pavement and later died of his injuries at the hospital, police said.
The radio station 102.5 KSFM had been holding a concert at Discovery Park Sunday afternoon. The fight broke out as the concert was winding down and thousands of people were starting to leave, KTXL reported.
Police searched each car leaving the park, looking for the other person involved in the fight. Police are still investigating the death.
Another incident at the concert triggered a stampede of people away from the food area. The sold-out concert featured rap and hip-hop artists, including E-40, Fat Joe and Remy Ma, Tyga and Ty Dolla Sign was going smoothly until about 2:30 p.m. when a deep-fryer ignited a propane tank and caused a fire in one of the food tents, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Several people were trampled and injured as concertgoers ran away from the flames. Firefighters doused the flames, but had to quickly switch gears and treat the injured, the Times reported.
Anyone with details about the fatal assault is urged to call the police department’s dispatch center at 916-264-5471 or Crime Alert at 916-443-4357.
