Canadian mining company, Barrick Gold, finally agrees to pay $438 million to Mali
Recall that in 2024, Mali's military President Assim Goita seized $245 million worth of gold from Barrick Gold and detained some of its employees due to unpaid taxes.
Mali's military government has demanded at least $512 million.
The company has agreed to pay $438 million before the closure of this week.

Ibrahim Babangida revealed that he offered MKO Abiola an interim government role after annulling the June 12, 1993, election—but Abiola refused.
In A Journey in Service, IBB wrote:
"At one of my several meetings with Abiola... I offered him an interim position pending when we could resolve the situation. Not surprisingly, Abiola turned down my offer."
He added that Abiola believed his "friends" would reinstate him after a coup, but they later consolidated power for another military takeover.
