Malcolm X (1992) is this the definitive version or should there be another adaptation?

No....leave it alone
I get y’all see this as a masterpiece but...

How many teenagers and young men do you think have read his autobiography or seen this movie?

Do you not believe a revamp would be able to enlighten the 90's and 00's babies?

I said Ava because of how good “When They See Us” was as far as acting, cinematography, wardrobe, soundtrack and all that. She was able to teach a whole generation that had no idea about the Central Park 5 thru the series.

I'm old as hell and have only read bits and pieces of the autobiography. I just fear the acting in this type of remake. When they see us was dope. Who is the Ava chick? What else has she made? Where did she come from?

She did ‘Selma’ and some other stuff. That whack looking Disney film as well. She’s definitely a somebody just not for a film about Malcolm X, though.

What Disney film? Not gonna lie I dont remember Selma. I definitely watched but that seems like such a long time ago. I've heard her name more recently. Is she like the lady that does Grey's Anatomy?

Ima young breh and I read it this year in full

They don’t teach this in school. I guarantee if you walk up on a 15 year old in my city and ask him about Malcolm X all they’ll be able to tell you is he’s a Civil Rights activist and has a block in Harlem named after him and some of these lil nikkas might not be able to even tell you that. :francis:

The only other thing I seen from Ava is 13. On god she would smash a 5 episode Netflix series on his life. It’s 2019, the movie came out 1992, they can make it better. :shaq2:

You’re confusing her with another lady. A Wrinkle In Time.

How young are you bruh? You right though. Some of our people hitting bushes status. Very sad. I believe you when it comes to Malcolm. That shyt got me thinking about Huey Newton, Bobby Seale, etc.

How you know about them like that? Like who put you on to them? There may need to be a reintroduction of some of our people. Social media fukked me up with the Nate Parker shyt. Not sure how a Malcolm X movie would be received considering the fact that American history tries to act like he doesn't exist and we get MLK (great man) pushed on us.

Not sure if my rant makes any sense but I feel a certain way about Malcolm X nothing but good things

I’m 23. My sister is 15 years older than me so she put me on to a lot about the world. I read books and shyt since young books like Manchild in the Promised Land by Claude Brown, Fist Stick Knife Gun by Geoffrey Canada, Down These Mean Streets by Piri Tomas helped open my consciousness.

Anybody touchin Malcolm X is gonna get shot. I remember when Spike told parents to keep their kids out of school that day and support it. My parents sho nuff did. The funny thing is that all the shows were sold out that day and we had to go to the 5:00 after all.

If you went to an HBCU or a black high school, this song ("Fruit of Islam" by Terence Blanchard) was mandatory to learn.

And yes, this really happened, right down to the white cop's "too much power" comment and the hand movement that made the Muslims file away.
In 1957, Malcolm X Stared Down The NYPD—And Won
Prison Culture » The Day That Malcolm Won Harlem Over…

“And then, in that dim light, Malcolm stood up and waved his hand, and all those people just disappeared. Disappeared. One of the police people said to me, ‘Did you see what I just saw?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ He said, “This is too much power for one man to have.’ He meant one black man. I’ll never forget that.”

Not to mention that you will never, EVER find that explosive, beautiful chemistry b/t two actors like Denzel and Angela. Plus I think they'd cut out a lot of the scenes including Elijah Muhammad (Ali Freeman, Jr.). It's way too iconic. It would be like trying to remake The Godfather.

I agree with most of that but we’ve been over the money shyt before in countless threads. If I put in 28 and it only makes 44 that ain’t enough. I need to make at least 80-90 to recoup the full investment of my 28. They lost money.

Yeah he got a raw deal but that’s what happens when you go over budget. The studio balks. I’m not mad at him for doing what he had to do to get the job done the way he envisioned. He stuck to his script he didn’t fold and he made what he wanted to make. I’ll always respect that. But the studio game is different. They care about the bottom line
That's incorrect.
Studios are okay if they break even. If they make some profit, even a small one, great.
That's how we get so many sequels that no one wants.
I forgot which actor was talking about it. He was saying basically if a movie sucks, you're happy because you think you're done it with but as soon as the studio makes their money back, the sequel is greenlit and they're calling you to put the suit back on.

BTW, the film we have is the definitive version and no one could do it better.
Any thoughts to the contrary are nonsense.

Like I said it’s about introducing Malcolm to a younger generation

And in modern time I don’t see WHY it can’t be done better especially with a director like Ava

Why cant they watch the movie that exists already? The events happened in the 50's and 60's, there is nothing to be updated.
What do you think needs to be improved when you say "done better"?
