I was going to do a big bet on the Giants until I heard Shephard is inactive.

I heard it on Bill Simmons' pod; typically in the first month of the season takng home dogs has a good cash rate. But after the first 4 weeks betting home dogs a lot is like throwing money away; betting road dogs becomes a lot more profitable.
