Once he sets his foundation along with getting the personnel that fits his scheme, this defense should be back to the silver bullets standards that haven't been seen in the last few years.
Definitely trying to be as realistic as possible but I fa'sho don't think that a quick turnaround is off the table. Especially with the schedule like @DropTopDoc mentioned. It's been way too much inconsistency the past few years. Some of that due to staff turnover, yeah, but also due to stubborn ass coaches as well. Im just glad that it appears Day is catching his shyt quickly.
Not gon lie his defense scares me, i understand the cover 3 you guys used to have the edge rushers and secondary, now it’s tbd, I know you all have talent but we’ve yet to see that stud emerge, but the beautiful part is his defense doesn’t need a quote on quote stud, and given the athletes you all have, who ever is the Leo, they will be something, not sure who will stretch you all vertically or eat up the run game to force you all out into the conflicts to the defense
I like the LB Mesh that he'll incorporate should do wonders now that we don't necessarily have the rushers or secondary (without some growth). Far too often, these LBs were taking hella bad angles or making the wrong read and sending mf's off to the races at the most inopportune times. He seems to be about keeping it simple but creating chaos and confusion at the same time, which for young college QBs, it's like their worst enemy. He did it at oklahama s without big names and was able to constantly generate pressures.
Also, underrated is that he bought over Tanner McCalister who will be a 4 yr starter in the scheme that will bring that experience and stabiltiy.
But yeah, with the schedule, there isn't a whole lot of high flying octane offenses that should be about to stretch us fr. ND should theoretically be the test obviously but Maryland might be a small dark horse. Niccas sleepin on them.
I hope bro on some Venables shyt though if he pan out fr. Be able to keep him for a decade or close to it til he wait for the perfect situation that would get him up out here. Tired of the revolving doors for some of the position coaches and DEF coach specifically. Game is the game tho.
