You read that as an attempt to have Nas killed?? :merchant:

Attempt to have PAC killed.

That entire intro is talking about rappers/labels/parties trying to have Pac silenced and "assassinate his character". Going to extreme lengths to even have him killed (Quad Studios)

He calls Nas the "ring leader" of all this. Implying that Nas was some Don that apparently had Bad Boy, Biggie, Mobb Deep, and others at his beck and call. I'm the biggest Nas fan on these boards, but to even suggest that this is true is silly. Nas was one of the top NY rappers at the time, and the only solo NY artist besides Biggie to be considered a superstar, but Nas barely interacted with anyone outside of QB on a personal level. He and Biggie never even collaborated. His closest rap homies were AZ and Raekwon. I just find it weird that Pac would single out Nas as the ring leader of this big conspiracy to have Pac shut down and possibly killed.

As I said before the only RAP lyrics that Nas sent at Pac was a subliminal on a clue tape. Hardly ring leader status.

He subliminally dissed Pac's "Thug Life" persona while Pac was locked up (or Pac took it as a shot) again, this is hardly "ring-leader" behavior.

Seems to me like Nas was doing what most NY rappers did at the time, throw pot shots at other rappers on their level on some competition MC shyt. I don't see anything from anyone who was around at the time (outlawz or Nas himself) suggest that Nas played any huge hand in Pac's music/life drama.

Got you, and agree 100%. But I don't think that's really what Tupac was doing.

He was recognizing that Nas had overtaken Biggie as the King of NY with IWW's success, and making him the "face" of the beef. It serves 2 goals: to go at a rapper he perceived as throwing shots, and to further marginalize BIG and Bad Boy.

What he's accusing Nas of being the ringleader of is a "conspiracy to assassinate the CHARACTER of not only Mr Shakur, but of Death Row records as well". Not the Quad shooting.

BTW this thread inspired me to work out to Makaveli. Still a masterpiece.

I legit think Pac had an undiagnosed mental illness or was messing with hard drugs.

.
I won't go that far but most people that were close to Pac said more or less that he was crazy. Intelligent with a huge heart, but crazy as shyt.

I interpret this as fearlessness being perceived as madness

Imo Pac was no further from the edge than any other woke black person in America. Take into account his indoctrination. He was raised by Panthers and the totality of their fate prob had an impact on his mindstate. If you're black and woke enough that shyt can be maddening at times. That + the trappings of fame at the speed it occured can give you exactly what we saw towards his death

That edge way is closer than most people think :manny:

I could be wrong but I always thought it was in reference to Nas claiming to be King of New York ("there's one life, one love, so there could only be one king"). The line by one of the Outlawz later in the song kind of confirms it I think ("King of New York, are you the motherfukkin one???)

I always felt like to pac NaS the only one who responded with some nutts.
Biggie is like one of the outlaws to Pac.
NaS is actually a rapper who pac could say is better than him. First album undisputed classic he knew he was a worthy adversary. Mobb deep were lil homies for the outlaws to ride on. Biggie was quietly playing the victim. NaS was actually spitting bars, taking his beat with street dreams, & was biggies big homie. So to pac NaS was the ring leader because he was the only one whom he considered a threat.

Biggie he murdered on hit ‘em up.

This.

I think Nas was the only one on the East that Pac thought could really beat him in a diss battle. I think that’s why he was willing to squash shyt in NY before he died. We gotta all remember Nas was like a rookie Mike Jordan with Illmatic. All of hip hop respected and applauded that album. There’s a story where Pac was on a road trip with I think Treach and he heard a song off of Illmatic and played it over and over again the whole ride.
