Wow, about Kaman.
You mentioned Mark Aguirre having Mexican heritage before. It was news to me.
He missed his Olympic chance because of the 1980 U.S. Boycott of the games.
Mexican Olympic organization have to be kicking themselves in the ass for not even making an attempt to recruit him. Hehehehe. He would have averaged 60 points
WHO KNEW ? I SAID IT AS A JOKE.
AGUIRRE MIGHT PLAY FOR MEXICO
March 19, 1992
Mark Aguirre of the
Detroit Pistons has been invited to compete in the Olympics-as a representative of Mexico.
Though he has been a U.S. citizen his entire life, Aguirre could play for Mexico in the Summer Olympics under a rule that allows players to represent a country where their father was a citizen. His father and grandfather were born in Mexico.
Aguirre met this month with Mexican Basketball Federation President Julio Ortiz in Los Angeles to discuss the possibility of playing, the Detroit News reported Wednesday.
Aguirre has been offered Mexican citizenship to go with his U.S. citizenship if he joins the team before the Tournament of the Americas in Portland in June. The top four teams in that tournament advance to the Olympics.
Aguirre said he won`t decide whether to play in Barcelona before discussing the matter with his wife, Angela.
''The biggest thing is going to the Olympics and competing,'' he said.
''The down side is I can`t compete for the U.S.''
Mexico, which is trying to upgrade its basketball program, believes Aguirre would improve the team`s chances.
Phoenix Suns forward
Cedric Ceballos, another
NBA player with Mexican ancestry, has also been invited.
''We hope Mr. Aguirre and Mr. Ceballos play with the national team,''
Ortiz said. ''It is an important thing for the Mexican national team.''
