Well its def not random or coincidence if thats what youre saying. For most white people, the confederate statues were a dormant issue, like racism itself. The events of the past week have been shocking to millions of people who were more than happy to carry on thinking racism was dead or dormant, because they didnt have to think about it or deal with it. Then suddenly it was right in your face again and there was no chance of plausible deniability anymore.

I dont think its as much to fuel the alt right as it is to reject their ideals while trying to prevent a situation like Charlottesville from possibly coming to their cities. They dont wanna deal with that shytstorm so they're just taking them down under the guise of doing the right thing (finally.)
