I know we've had some recent posts on the matter; but after 10+ years as a faithful Firefox/Netscape user, it was time to say goodbye. Finally got the chance to dive into Chrome's developer tools(I'm a responsive web programmer/designer) and was highly impressed (even though I still think Webkit sucks donkey dikk as a rendering engine).

I got my iMac 10.8, Windows 8, iPad, nexus 7 and s3 all synced; which makes life so easy. But as soon as i installed Awesome New Tab Page, I knew the switch would be permanent. I made it a pin tabbed and have it open on launch by default. Check out how I customized it below:

So what are some other extensions you guys would recommend? I'll list what I got so far...

Generic Extensions:
- Adblock
- AVG Do Not Track
- Neat Bookmarks
- New Tab Redirect Plus! (Overrides my home tab from being opened in new tab and just pulls up google.com instead)
- Tab Position Customizer(Have new tabs open as active)

Web Development Extensions:
- Web Developer
- Tape (Measurement tools, rulers and grids)
- YSlow

Started with this extension: Awesome New Tab Page

But it makes all new tabs open up with that screen, which to me was completely unnecessary....so I installed New Tab Redirect Plus! and overrode that and made the new tab button open up google.com. Then I did some tweaks to make the pin tab open by default(two completely different ways in windows and mac). I also edited the source code of the extensions and hacked it cause I didn't agree with some of his styling.

After I got all that working, I made all the icons and labels in Photoshop organized it on the screen

This is the kinda shyt that is dope when you do it. Others see it too and you get the :ohhh: looks but in a few months you get bored and switch it all up.

As for extensions not mentioned already though:
- Lastpass: shyt has held me down sufficiently with an encrypted password archive. iPhone combatible too.
- My Episode Guide: TV addict, shyt lets me know when every single episode and show is airing next.
- Autopager: Speaks for itself.
- Bitly: Link Shortener, use for Twitter, iMessage daily.
- Pocket: Read it Later, very useful, iPhone compatible too.
- Hover Zoom: Dope for enlargening thumbnails without having to load any new tabs. Useful with facebook and instagram pictures on twitter etc.

Will update with more as I get them.

I feel you. But I've been using windows 8 for a minute so i'm very use to clicking the start button and scrolling to an app to launch, and this isn't any different. Instead of clogging up my bookmarks folder or typing those sites out everytime, I just click. And this total setup about 5 hours; 3 hours dedicated to rewriting some of his code and changing chrome's default functionality to have a more pleasant and efficient user experience and about 2 hours making the icons.

I'm going to check out latepass, autopager and bitly(already have a custom domain account)

i used to fukk with chrome but too many tabs and my computer is like

Yea it's only on the windows version. What I did was edit some preferences on how chrome handles its GPU and made chrome processes the highest priority in task manager. It stopped all the lag and freezing.

Actually guys I'm going to have to back track on that statement. I just found out the code is open source and the creator encourages people to fork it and customize it. I will fork it this weekend and make the basic changes I did to the version i have now and release it with a different name (all the credit to the original extension will be included)

Then I'll do periodical updates to it and will hope to have these features built it in within the next couple months:

- Ability to set extension as "home screen or next tab", in addition to being able to define your "new tab" url.

- A fixed audio footer widget that connects to google music.

- different tile screens: shortcuts screen(the app/web links like he has now), an rss screen, a youtube screen with built in player and a calendar screen

- a search widget(similar to the look and feel of Google now, and search opens in new tab)

- ability to add widgets that are the mobile version of the embedded site

- light and dark themes

- icon packs

Wishlist (I don't think it's even possible, but who knows): port the extension to a web url so you can access it on your mobile devices.

Did I miss anything? Anyone got some name suggestions? That's the one thing I always struggle with haha
