Boy when Hollywood picks their black person of the moment they make sure they dikk ride to the fullest.
Yeah, this is how I feel and I'm conflicted about it. Foremost, I do think Lupita is an attractive woman. But, I don't have a sexual attraction to her in the sense I want to ravage her; yet, I don't think she's unattractive either if that makes sense. I love what she's accomplished and what she represents as a black woman in a predominately white institution, and how she's done it with black features that are atypical of most of her acting peers. I do understand people's desire to champion her and I don't take issue with that at all. To invoke the immortal words of the great orator Sean Carter, "When you see me, see you." Is she not one of "us" in some sense of blackness and archetypal reference? Surely, she is. With that being said, when people rail against Lupita mania, I don't think most take umbrage with Lupita herself. Certainly, there are people that don't find her attractive and that's fine -- you agree to disagree and you move one. What I think
most people are criticizing when they denounce the frenzy that currently surrounds her is the patronizing aspect that is a byproduct of the media. Simply stated, it's become a game of high end one-upmanship. Who can write, say, blog, print, publish etc. the statement that is the most reverential in praise and adoration vis-à-vis Lupita's attractiveness. "Hey, I just said Lupita has the most symmetrical teeth I've ever seen on a human! Can we get that edited to air tonight on the 9:00 PM broadcast?" After awhile, it just feels really inauthentic.
I do believe the media thinks she's attractive, but they seemingly play it up to a hyperbolic level because it's currently the vogue thing to do.
