Well he did say "lyricism",so it would just depend on what and who he regards as a lyricist. Also Ice Cube did have great punchlines and wordplay when he started out btw. Cubes bag was deeper than Lupes,so I dont think he would question somebody of that caliber. He never said lyricism means complex "technical" lyricism. His requirement was above average competence which isnt alot to ask. And all of the people mentioned in here so far had above average lyricism,Nas does use wordplay.

Probably the first good post I've seen from this poster. Crazy.
Lupe talked his way out of a lot of his core Fanbase not even giving a shyt anymore on top of dropping some wack stuff 
-Punches, similes, metaphors and other shyt has a place but it's not a necessity. Many artists are trying to paint a picture or set a tone with their music & throwing this shyt in for no reason can actually make the product worse.
