Immediate red flag claiming that Lupe can only operate in SLR mode. As recent as yesterday’s podcast, Lupe said he doesn’t want to make songs like Pressure or Dumb It Down (not specifically, just the examples used in the video) all the time. Barring you to death is light work, but he’d rather make more conceptual music and the Mural type joints have always been a fraction of his albums.

1. Spreading misinformation at the 9 min mark, but the most baffling thing is his theory that the Lasers situation was just a marketing ploy. Like imagine remaking what you think will be the best received album of your career to the point that your punk manifesto is sanitized in the final product, intentionally doing that backwards, masochistic shyt for a slight bump in record sales? Dude knows more than the average person I guess, but not enough to justify making this video.

2. More than his skill set, Lupe’s career is an anomaly in that if you weren’t a fan since the FNF tapes and following his every move until now, it doesn’t make a lot of sense. Or worse, you think he has an identity crisis. Using Drogas Light to highlight modern Lupe is dumb and he’s overstating the complexity of those songs. Nothing but single-ready songs on there, as straight forward as it gets.

3. I still think Lupe only started singing more as a result of FNF falling apart and this increased attention to melody only helped him be a more versatile artist, which you need for a double disc. Also, Drogas Wave repeatedly pulls from F&L and The Cool for inspiration, lyrically and musically.

I finally watched it and it upset me. Lol!!

He started off strong the intro was dope!

But to say Lupe growth was “stunted” is just downright stupid. He has gold and platinum records and classic verses and songs.

As an artist 2021 Lupe Fiasco is by far a much better lyricist and songwriter than earlier Lupe. Early Lupe couldn’t write a song like WAV FIles or Murals.

Lupe was really having label issues with Atlantic that was brewing years before Anonymous threatened them. A marketing ploy? Come on now. lasers is literally Lupes only number 1 album and has gone gold so how didn’t fans not support it? I literally still have a physical copy of it upstairs no lie

so much of what he was saying just isn’t and was not true!

dude literally admitted to technically being bias cause Lupe is diverse lol WHAT?!!

It’s possible for Lupe to be pro black, a rap god, a gangsta, love anime, make pop tracks, love karate. No one and I mean no one is really homogeneous

my main issue was he really underplayed drogas wave and Tetsuo and Youth which are arguably two of the best rap releases of the past few years to really focus on the negative I.e. lasers and drogas light

he literally said “everything after his first two projects is confusing and not focused” smh come on

I could go in more depth but @brianwuzhere really touched on it also

lmao Lupe found this video and did like a 3 hour rant on it. I’ll drop some notes from what I remember:

- F&L was done in 05
- F&L wouldn’t have come out without Daydreamin’, similar to The Show Goes On
- Craig Kallman called the radio stations and told them to stop playing Kick, Push
- Craig didn’t like Matthew Santos (also why they didn’t push Shining Down) and there are 5 versions of Superstar, trying to tweak it to involve Atlantic in some way
- Jay-Z, Julie Greenwald and Lyor Cohen all loved Superstar, but if he went to Craig first, The Cool probably wouldn’t have come out
- Craig didn’t even know what kind of deal Lupe had until after The Cool
- Airplanes exists because Hayley Williams wanted to collab with Lupe
- When that was still Lupe’s song, Craig lied and said Lupe agreed to give away 85%? of his publishing
- He wrote Just The Way You Are and gave it to Bruno Mars, that’s why he’s on the remix
- There’s unheard T&Y bonus tracks, such a tease
- Lost potential millions turning down ads for Ace of Spades, McDonald’s, etc.

Maybe a youtube video will pop up later.

What a idiot about the endorsements

why did Craig Kallman essentially hate lupe was it all Matthew santos? Wasn’t Julie and Lyor running Atlantic?

There was nothing to develop, nothing to stick Craig's dirty hands in. Lupe had already been grinding since at least 2000 and gone through the ups and downs new artists traditionally encounter before they find their identity. F&L was done before Lupe got there and Craig found little they could directly profit off of. Even if the music was technically good, Craig wouldn't admit it if they didn't own any of it. Essentially, it's just Lupe wasn't willing to play the game and his story isn't the only one.

I don't really understand what Julie's specific position was, but it seems like she wasn't directly overseeing Lupe in the same way Craig was. Lyor was at Warner, not even the same building.
