Honestly I'm not sure. I doubt it was because he heard it was a concussion. I think he was so scrambled after the hit that he exhibited that symptom. Although I could see him reacting to the concussion diagnosis that way because he had recently had one and probably realized that if he had another one it would probably signal the time to hang it up.

He had just missed a few weeks for concussions, came back, and then was concussed again and his brain was freaking out.

I'll never forget this moment... I remember when I saw it I was thinking that maybe he had broken something. Then they said it was probably a concussion, I immediately thought "that dude is gonna retire early". Especially since, if I remember correctly, he hadn't been too long recovered from one prior to that.

This was the moment when we all knew it would be over for dude not too long from then. His proneness to head injuries shortened his career and hopefully did not shorten his lifespan.
