Exactly that dude is an idiot. He’s 6’7 230 with elite handles and footwork. He can get to his spot on anybody, and use his size and quickness score. Name the great defenders of the past, Tony Allen, Bruce Bowen, Dennis Rodman etc and Luka would still drop 28, 6, 8 on them.

He has to sacrifice some of his offense to become better on defense to become one of the all time greats though.

Never gonna be great in total defense but he's currently top 5 in steals a game

People wondered what Bird would look like well you're seeing it..with a little more of a perimeter action as opposed to post action

You obviously neither were alive then nor watched many of his games because they are nothing alike other than being white.

Luka plays like a more fluid Magic when he really wanted to score, but with a better jumper. Bird's game looked nothing like this at all. Bird was more like a stiffer KD with more awkward handles but better court awareness.

That's what I was referring to a perimeter focus than post focus

The similarity comes from creativity and use of limited physical ability while being able to score anywhere on the court as well as facilitate

Bird is a far better distributor than KD and Magic couldnt really shoot

But those are just ideas, they aren't playing styles.

Bird was never ball-dominant, he played off-ball and would score or pass relatively quickly off the feed. You can watch a peak Celtics game and see them go multiple possessions in a row without Bird even touching the ball. The same Larry Bird who rarely put up 25ppg despite playing in an era that was faster than this one isn't going to be filling a stat sheet like Luka. There were prime years where guys like Kiki Vandeweghe and Kelly Tripucka were outscoring him, even though he was clearly the superior player, because his playing style just wasn't like that.

To be honest, if you really want to make a Luka comp he's more like Harden than anyone else, or like a slow-ass version of young LeBron.

This is mostly fair, though I contend that the creativity and IQ Bird displayed in scoring and passing would have translated to him being able to functionally run an offense with the ball in his hands had he been tasked with that role. Other than Magic, point forwards/big point guards were not a thing when he played. Had it been more accepted then he develops his handles and his acumen gets more utilized as a floor general

Luka plays like an all time great after their athleticism declined and he mostly depends on his skills and bball iq. Like Jordan and Kobe after they got older.

So Bird wouldnt jack up 3s and hog the ball in this era?

Bird in this era is whatever he wants to be.
