Ludacris’ monster success within Hollywood has opened the doors for bigtime opportunities inside the film industry. For his next trick, he’s assuming the title of executive producer alongside Ryan Seacrest and TV veteran Nina Wass for a developing CBS Atlanta gang drama.

In August 2014, Ryan Seacrest Productions signed a two-year deal with CBS TV Studios to not only helm the broadcast department but streaming services as well. The CBS Atlanta gang drama reportedly titled The Down Beat, appears to be the first strike of iron in the deal.

Variety reports that the show will follow “the inspiring story of a former business mogul on a warpath for personal retribution who is determined to take down two warring gangs in the mean streets of Atlanta by offering possible teen recruits an unlikely refuge with a high school marching band.” Although he won’t be doing any writing, Ludacris will obviously lend a much-needed dose of street cred to the series in order to prevent a Black Twitter derailment.

The year has been especially kind for Ludacris (real name Christopher Bridges) who not only released his first studio album in five years with Ludaversal in March, but also was part of the fifth-highest-grossing film of all time this past April with the release of Furious 7.

Drum Line meets 187 meets Mighty Ducks. Sounds not good...

Ryan did really well with Mixology. But this has to be smart. Empire has the corny theatrics on lock.

:why:......................................................:russell:

Sounds boring as hell.

Was hoping for something like The Wire based in Atlanta or something. I'll check out the pilot when it drops. But they gotta do better with the summaries/taglines goin forward.

... Ludacris will obviously lend a much-needed dose of street cred to the series in order to prevent a Black Twitter derailment....
I can understand this part. If you go to Ryan Seacrest to get helpful hints on how to make the show real, it would be seen as fake. Here's an example.

Bro 1: Hey bro.
Bro 2: Hi bro.
Bro 1: Ready to do some gang stuff?
Bro 2: Yes, I am. Are you?
Bro 1: I am definitely ready to do gang stuff.
Bro 2: Do you have any cigarillos to smoke?
Bro 1: Why yes, I do. <hands over a Black & Mild>
Bro 2: Word out.
Bro 3: Hey guys, how's it going?
Bro 1: Hello brother. <high 5's Bro 3>
Bro 2: I am chilling out.
Bro 3: I brought my tablet over.... so we can plan out our gang activities.
Bro 2: That's what I am talking about.
Bro 1: Cuz, you always come through.
Bro 3: I thought we would begin by spray painting our gang name and symbol on the Fifth Street Bridge.
Bro 1: Whoa, you are hard core.
Bro 3: Hey, I lived in Brooklyn for three years.
Bro 2: Dudes, I'm kinda scared. I've never spray painted graffiti before.
Bro 3: Well, there's no better time than the present.
Bro 1: That's what I am talking about.
Bro 2: Isn't the Fifth Street Bridge on Savages territory?
Bro 3: Exactly. We need to make our mark.
Bro 1: <eyes open widely> Heaven's to Betsy, expanding into Savages territory. We'll be like king of the jungle.
Bro 2: That is crazy.
Bro 3: Kings.... of the street jungle. <fist bumps Bro 1>
