looking back Family Matters was cringe worthy :scust:

First and only Black sitcom to pull off 2 examples of cliche TV show fukkery

" the unexplained disappearance of a character/family member" & "switching the actor/actress playing a character"

the youngest daughter just vanished

they changed the mom in final season
And though it's prob not a trope

It was carried by one person -Steve.

The show is like the TV show equivalent to a movie being considered watchable/carried by one actors performance

People complain about it being stevecentic but that's what got people to watch it

Steve carried that show.

I would've just written that last ep slightly different..We still get the double proposal.. Eddie becomes a cop, but Laura says yes to Stephan which pushes Steve to accept the space program..Everybody says their goodbyes at the engagement party and Carl tells him there's nobody else he would rather have get on his nerves all these years..especially someone he looked at as a son.. Last but not least Steve sees Laura the morning he leaves for camp.. He thanks her for being there all this time and at least thinking of his proposal given the odds of a choice between what he couldn't give her and everything Stephan could... His cab honks and he starts to walk out but not before they hug+kiss and he asks Laura to remember him and he rolls out.. Laura looking down at the ring he gave her silently says ..I Love You Too Steve... then walks back into the house as the camera pans up and away over Chicago just like the og opening credits

Well honestly Laura wasn't charismatic enough to be interesting as a person and/or character to help offset Steve. The most interesting interactions were always Carl and Steve because he actually had what it took to hold his own with him. The youngest daughter wasn't even rudy-status, and Harriet was generic to me also.

Eddie to me is who I thought the show probably should've been mostly about. He stood out to me as a guy who should've transcended far beyond the show. A coming of age sitcom always works. :manny:
