I would've just written that last ep slightly different..We still get the double proposal.. Eddie becomes a cop, but Laura says yes to Stephan which pushes Steve to accept the space program..Everybody says their goodbyes at the engagement party and Carl tells him there's nobody else he would rather have get on his nerves all these years..especially someone he looked at as a son.. Last but not least Steve sees Laura the morning he leaves for camp.. He thanks her for being there all this time and at least thinking of his proposal given the odds of a choice between what he couldn't give her and everything Stephan could... His cab honks and he starts to walk out but not before they hug+kiss and he asks Laura to remember him and he rolls out.. Laura looking down at the ring he gave her silently says ..I Love You Too Steve... then walks back into the house as the camera pans up and away over Chicago just like the og opening credits

The final episode was just thrown together at the end.

I read somewhere the final episode was gonna be Steve and Laura getting married the way Mother Winslow got married (in the back of the house) and that Eddie was gonna propose to Greta that same night.

Thats the biggest misnomer on the show, that they "switched" Harriet... But in their defense she voluntarily left the show because she did not agree with the direction it was headed with all the Steve shenanigans. They had to roll on

The sitcoms that stand the test of time never were corny. Martin, Cosby Show, Fresh Prince, King of Queens, all hold up the best to me.

Family Matters was my shyt until the final couple of seasons where there was all kinds of transformation chambers, time travel, robots, shrinking or whatever came out of the writers asses. It got mad silly. I remember when Urkel turned into Bruce Lee and beat the shyt out of Tommy the Green Ranger
