I just talked to my dad for the first time in 6 years yesterday. My phone rang and I saw some weird number, thing is I just moved to Cali about 2 months ago so I'm still job-hunting. I figured the number might have been a job I applied to so I picked up the phone.
Me: Hello?
Dad: Hey Jay, this is your dad.
Me: .....
Dad: I heard you, your sister and mother moved out to California, how do you like it out there?
Me: Why are you calling me?
Dad: I miss you and your sister, I know I haven't been there for y'all but just know I'm proud of you and I wish you the best.
Me: OK.
Dad: I know you're angry but please I want you to try to forgive me.
Me: Trust me I'm not angry or sad, I just honestly don't really care anymore.
Dad: What is that supposed to mean?
Me: Figure it out for yourself.

I hung up after that. I don't know if I handled the situation correctly and I honestly don't care. My dad left us when I was 4 and my little sister had just been born. Dude left my mom when she had absolutely nothing and was still very weak from giving birth. I figure that reality hit him that he had two kids and a fiancee to take care of and he just bailed. Usually, dude would call me and my sis out of the blue and at least say hi. But he even stopped doing that, last time I remember dude calling us was like back in 2010. shyt has been so hard for us for years, my mom just got lucky to get a job offer in Cali that paid her a lot of money and that's what led to us moving out here. Otherwise we still would have been in the hood in NY. I will never understand how a man can leave two kids to grow up on their own and somehow still say he loves them. I will never ever pull some shyt like that with my kids when the time comes. I had so much hurt and pain towards my dad for such a long time but it's gone now. Now I honestly don't give a fukk about him, which is probably the worst case scenario for a parent in regards to their children. I love my mom, such a hardworking, positive woman. I got my Bachelor's degree last spring and my mom cried at my graduation. I felt like crying too cuz shyt been so hard for us. shyt is real brehs, I will always remember everything she has done as a single mother to get us to this point. I can't wait to have a career, I have special things planned for my moms.
