@Aelyas en passant on this, kids, even older kids, hell even older adults make mistakes all the time, often costing their lives. I wont pretend to know the girls exact motives or what propaganda or nihilism they ate up to arrive at the conclusion that joining ISIS is a viable life choice. If these girls were in fact as competent as their grades might indicate I wonder what influence would take a bright, seemingly sane, person and twist their minds like this.
Here in America we just recently had another cop killing in Milwaukee, a young man was shot and killed by police after he reportedly raised his weapon. I found myself watching the ensuing riot(s) that have been taking place and wonder about the shyt in a young person's mind that might make them feel that burning shyt in their own neighborhood to the ground would be the best course of action. Clearly there's a lot of pent up anger, whether justified or not it doesn't really matter, the point is this; to understand things, assuming that is your goal, really try to understand the situations surrounding both these girls and those involved in riots, or hell even in gangs.
Not until you can really appreciate the nihilism and utter despair that must exist to allow gangs, or terrorism to be a viable life choice, will you really understand what is wrong with this world.
RIP to these girls, to Sylville Smith, to the victims and perpetrators of violence the world over caused, more often than not, by a deficiency of hope and positive opportunities.
