Lomachenko-Lopez Weigh-In Results From MGM Grand Conference Center

LAS VEGAS – Vasiliy Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez finally came face-to-face several seconds after they made weight Friday afternoon at MGM Grand Conference Center.

Lomachenko smiled and confidently shook his head once they eventually were separated following an intense staredown. Lopez’s facial expression never changed before they went in opposite directions and walked off the stage.

Neither Lomachenko nor Lopez was wearing a mask when they got in each other’s face. Both boxers are now awaiting results from their final COVID-19 tests, which will become available Saturday morning.

Ukraine’s Lomachenko weighed exactly 135 pounds when he stepped on the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s scale. Brooklyn’s Lopez also officially weighed 135 pounds, the lightweight limit for their 12-round title unification fight.

The MGM Grand’s sports book lists Lomachenko as a 4-1 favorite to beat Lopez in a main event ESPN will televise live from MGM Grand Conference Center.

They’ll fight for Lomachenko’s WBA, WBC franchise and WBO lightweight titles. Lopez’s IBF belt also will be at stake.

Barring a draw, Lomachenko or Lopez will emerge as boxing’s first fully unified lightweight champion in the four-belt era.

Lomachenko (14-1, 10 KOs) has won 13 consecutive bouts since losing a 12-round split-decision to Mexico’s Orlando Salido in his second professional fight in March 2014 in San Antonio. Lopez is unbeaten (15-0, 12 KOs), but he obviously will encounter the most skilled, accomplished opponent of his four-year pro career in Lomachenko.

Moments before Lomachenko and Lopez made weight, Arnold Barboza Jr. and Alex Saucedo made weight for their 10-round junior welterweight bout Saturday night.

Barboza (24-0, 10 KOs), of South El Monte, California, officially weighed exactly 140 pounds. Saucedo (30-1, 19 KOs), of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, came in at 140 pounds even as well.

The battle between Barboza, 28, and Saucedo, 26, will immediately precede the Lomachenko-Lopez fight.

Edgar Berlanga and Lanell Bellows came in on weight Friday as well.

Brooklyn’s Berlanga (14-0, 14 KOs) initially stepped on the NSAC’s scale at 169.5 pounds, but he met the contracted maximum of 169, on the nose, when he stripped naked and tried again moments later. Las Vegas’ Bellows (20-5-3, 13 KOs, 1 NC) weighed in at 169 pounds on his first try.

Their scheduled eight-rounder will kick off the main portion of ESPN’s seven-fight card at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

Berlanga, 23, has won each of his 14 professional bouts by first-round knockout. Bellows, 34, has lost by knockout once, but the result of his third-round knockout defeat to Mike Snider in June 2017 was changed to a no-contest by the NSAC.

The official weights for the first four fights on the Lomachenko-Lopez undercard are listed below. The entire seven-fight card will be broadcast by ESPN and ESPN Deportes and streamed by ESPN+, starting at 7:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. PT.
