Jay Dee overrated? only by cats that came late to the party and want to earn cool points, some of the stuff I've seen being kicked around here recently has been downright pathetic.

Dilla is highly praised and with good reason.

these guys look like the most boring people on the planet

I won't even get into the topic of Dilla's ratedness, but like I've said before

I've heard directly from industry heads just how much of awe producers you guys like to stan like were of that man. Him (Madlib too) would make the room go quiet when they talk about production.

And this isn't just some random behind the scenes dudes that have no clout either. Pete Rock literally went back and redid the entire Pestrumentals album after hearing Welcome To Detroit. 9th Wonder and crew fell apart after hearing that record and were like "we need to step our rap game up". ATCQ changed their entire sound up after meeting him. I'll go as far to say the vast majority of bandcamp beatmakers today are directly in the Dilla lineage if you go to sites like strictlybeats. This isn't some random guy getting internet props.

"Dilla is overrated" is just a contrarian hipster internet argument.

Guys that don't make beats don't appreciate how talented that guy was.
