wayne has always been a mixtape rapper to me. i never took his albums very seriously. c1 & c3 were dope as fukk but beyond that his album game is wack. he doesn't sound good over album like beats. he's much better over big name, high energy mixtape type beats. he raps with energy and at his core he's a punchline rapper. d4 was good as fukk to me. his word play was outta this world, he had some corny lines, but for the most part i was feeling that mixtape heavy. i burned that shyt and i been bumping it in my car since it dropped. have his rhymes and metaphors fallen off since the da drought 3, yeah obviously, but no one can stay at that high level forever.
big sean is an album guy. he sounds much better over more heavily produced, theatrical beats. he has much more variety in his voice and can ride beats better than most rappers out right now. he's only 1 album deep so obviously his mixtape work has been better, but just wait till he's 4 or 5 deep. i think he'll be one of the best rappers outta detroit ever. in detroit it sounded like he was tryna do a mixtape/album hybrid and it just came off sounding very unorganized. there were some gems, but for the most part it wasn't very good. but best believe ima cop his next album first day.
