I plan on taking a class to get a handgun this summer, but Maryland doesn’t allow you to carry.

Only reason Maryland ain't on my list of potential places to move to. Y'all need to get the Supreme court to overturn that, they did it for Chicago/Illinois

It didn't take buffalo for me. Having a good friend/ former classmate carjacked and killed back in his hometown who came back from med school did it for me. Many elders told me it was de man but I see it's always someone in a pooh sheisty mask or some punk with a ghost gun.

I’ve always been a strong advocate of arming yourself for protection. Even if you don’t like guns, be realistic about the world we live in and understand that it’s almost becoming a necessity now.

But you gotta put the time in on the range to learn how to shoot, that will be a major advantage in a life or death situation. The average person that’s carrying can’t shoot a handgun or underestimate how difficult it is. Add in the nerves when you are in a high pressure situation and those bullets will hit everything but your target.

For that reason I have a rifle for home defense. I consider myself a decent(maybe even good) shot and I don’t trust myself at all to be able to use a handgun effectively to protect my family.

100% on the training.

I know way too many people that buy guns and do not train on how to shoot properly. Range time, drawing weapon drills, failure to extract/eject drills... people need to take classes and get skilled in these areas.

Shout-out to the poster that said the Sig Sauer P365. Great carry gun. Get the TAC version that comes with three 12 Rd mags :ohlawd:

That’s my brother. We went to the range two days ago and he shot his hellcat for the second time….a gun he got in 2020.

He was wondering why he wasn’t even hitting the paper at 10 yards out. I’m like “bruh you gonna end up killing a bystander if you ever have to shoot that bytch. You need to just carry a knife or some shyt”

The G43 is the most compact gun I ever had, but that bytch has too much kick to it and the handle is too damn short.
That's why I mentioned the 43X/48 which has a longer grip that's similar to the Sig. Slim/subcompact pistols will always have more recoil than standard ones due to less mass to offset the kick

For that reason I have a rifle for home defense. I consider myself a decent(maybe even good) shot and I don’t trust myself at all to be able to use a handgun effectively to protect my family.

This is why the AR-15 is the ideal home defense weapon, for all the reasons it's vilified across the media. It's easy to use, reliable and effective...but it's caliber also has the least overpenetration of the most common calibers (contrary to popular belief), which is critical for those worrying about children or other loved ones elsewhere in the house.

Everyone making half witted remarks about "who needs an AR-15" has never shot a handgun, much less in a manner used in a typical home defense scenario (moving, reacting, low light, multiple aggressors, etc.)
