Whole Mr Smith era sounded like Bad boy low key
He had Trackmasters doing most of the production, and they worked under Puffy in 94/95 (they did the beat for Juicy) but left for the same reason every producer leaves Puff :mjlol:

So yeah, naturally it's gonna have that Bad Boy sound; they arguably invented it. Same thing with It Was Written, which was also Trackmasters. If you wanted that bad Boy vibe with the 80s r&b samples, you went to them.

I dont know what this means.

its a beat. LL made a great song out of it.

What was Big gonna do with the beat? What Im saying is, the beat aint that standout. LL did his thing over it. With the back and forth with Leshaun, that made the song crazy

Truth.

Rashad was just shopping the beat. The lyrics and hook that made "Doin' It" all started with L, after he got the beat.

LL just said recently that people always tell him he was supposed to be on certain songs because people sent beats, and half the time he never even got around to hearing the beat. Happens all the time. But producers act like tracks have been turned down, and dudes ain't even hear them, lol.

This has been known for many years. Rashad Smith gave an interview many years ago talking about it. He also worked with Bad Boy in that era as well. Just as the initial post stated, Puff wasn't moving quick enough on that bread after they already had the beat so she sold it to LL. Nothing wrong with that.

Similar to how Clark Kent shopped the Players Anthem to LL first & he turned it down which then it went to Big/Jr. Mafia

yep. Da Beatminerz just gave an interview with Wordsworth talking about the beat "tight" they gave to Rah Digga. They said so many people had it and kept bullshytting. They said Busta, Pun, and Mobb Deep even had it too. The funny part about it all is they said when Busta heard the song after Rah Digga recorded it, he was talking about he would have bodied the beat had he got the chance :russ:

LL said he never even heard the beat, and that the rumor wasn't true.

He said Clark probably sent it, but it never got to him, so he didn't turn it down. He said he was getting a million beats back then, and would never even listen to most of them.

Probably true because according to Clark when he & LL were at the Tunnel & Players Anthem came on, he said he wanted some heat like that from him. Then Clark had to tell him he sent it to him first

of course that's what he's going to say. Mo Bee said he offered Kane "warning" before Biggie got it and Kane turned it down and then Kane claimed he had never heard it.

That's exactly how LL is. LOL!!

If he's not with you in person and actually in the studio and listening to tracks, you can forget about it. He's not gonna hear anything you send him. Chad Elliot said he was sending LL the same beat tapes over and over again for months, and wasn't getting any responses. Then he ran up on LL at The Hit Factory and LL was like, "Finally! Now you can let me hear some sh*t". HAHA!!
