Defense Attorney: Trayvon decided to confront Zimmerman because he had plenty of time to go home after hiding in the bushes

The most logical explanation is that Trayvon decide to quickly hid from Zimmerman since Zimmerman ran after him and didn't want to lead him back to his home and possible merk his brother to. Than Zimmerman saw trayvon hiding and thats when shyt got out of hand. People who run away from you are trying to avoid a confrontation not start one.
