Not voluntarily. For most people they would have to have no choice unless you are into outdoor fitness/lifestyle.
And considering health issues plaguing the western world such as athritis,lung issues,obesity,bad knee and back etc, most people would struggle to pull it off once nevermind on a cosnsitent basis

The country was constructed in such a way (when the highway system was created) that a car was necessary. I understand that. Every city and State doesn't have the same public transit and infrastructure and concentration of people and businesses that you see in a lot of major metro areas.I think you missed his point. Just because a person can, does not mean a person should. Getting access to anything would be horrible without a car in most of the US. I don't know how some people do without.
