“I was on the road, on tour at a real young age and then I did one album and blacked out on the album,” he explained to HipHopDx.com. “Lyrically blacked out, but I was just there. I don’t even remember how I got it done and what studio I did it in.”

Redman suggests that this drug-fueled haze associated with that time of his life accounts for why he’s remained so hesitant to even revisit the album. He explains, “I was doing a lot of drugs on Dare Iz A Darkside … I swear, I have not played Dare Iz A Darkside damn near since I did it. Seriously! I was so lost, I was so fukked up during that album.”

Redman’s ‘Dare Iz A Darkside’ Turns 25 | Anniversary Retrospective

Meanwhile in my opinion Darkside was psychological healthy for him.

Dr. Trevis cleanses and reprogrammed his mind at the start.

Did anyone not like that first track off muddy waters because it sampled the Roots sections which we all heard first?

Muddy waters is dope. But because of that sample I was like nah.

Obviously it's still a dope track. But how strong I felt about biting even back then...which I'm sure he didn't mean I was like hmmm.

It's scary man.

Redman has the power to destroy and rebuild rap with the power of only him, Eric and Keith Murray.

But he keeps dropping jackboi beats videos and is skydiving alot.

And promising us Muddy 2 for so many years.

I'm not hating. Just scared man.

Scared that he won't follow up.

And to me it's not that hard.

Just bring Eric, Keith, his own beats, Krs, Em, G Rap, Das Efx and that's it.

I hope he drops Muddy AND Darkside 2.

I hope he bring back his horrorcore. And inspiration.

its my fav Red album. havent played it in some years. gonna run it this weekend

Bro, I put it on while cooking for my girl today.

Please re-listen to the whole thing and come back here with just a few points on what you think in 2024.

The album hits different now. Even more different then in 2000 or 2015.

It sounds like a classic funk or soul album but the main character is going the fukk off!

His best album imo...I go thru this and I can't even pick a favorite song b/c there's so many bangers

I know Reggie ain't feelin it like that...but Ghost doesn't fw Ironman like that either...Both are classic beyond classic

Please re-listen to it soon and drop your thoughts here.

It hits different now. It ages incredibly while time goes.

I will, I'm about due too. It's been since last year around this time when I was bumping it heavy.

Been stuck in a Roc Marci vibe for a couple weeks. Gotta run thru the new Benny tape that just dropped then I'm slapping Dare Iz a Darkside on.

Dope. Well it's good to know you register it in 2023.

This year I noticed the basslines are pitched so low.

I literally studied that kind of rap.

To think Red and Eric just "made" it.

From what they knew...but them and Wu and G Rap all created blue prints.

I feel jumpy just thinking of them now.

Other than old funk and rap they created their own lane.

fukking geniuses.

We must salute them heavy that's a major reason.

I heard Darkside today and it fukked me up.

And I bought it not right when it dropped but a few months later in 1995.

I knew about Redman in 1992 when I was 10 tho.

If Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was in audio form lol

I could see that.

I wonder how smoking PCP and listening to that album is.

I couldn't, but Jersey was popular for angel dust.

That album would Prolly sound so different.
