Super Smash Bros Melee - Its the most fun one in my opinion. I think for the GameCube controller alone. I always hated the wiimote, the pro controller and the Wii U big ass gamepad. N64 controller feels better for platforming imo.

Shadow Of The Colossus - Played this mad late, like a few years ago. On the PS2 before the remake was made for the PS4 and I never had a PS3 for the port. Thanks eBay.

We Love Katamari - Weird but so fun. I recommend everyone go buy Katamari Reroll on Steam, PS Store, eShop. No idea if available on Xbox digital store.

Grand Turismo 3 - Someone needs to PM me how emulate this. I never got to beat it. Sports is definitely better and I’m sure 7 is great. If you missed it. Try it.

Bloodbourne - Dabbled with Dark Souls first but this so much better. The Speed makes it way more accessible imo.

Honorable mentions:
Animal Crossing- Only played the original GC one on my Wii back in the day. I always saw it what a kind of wish The Sims 2 was like.

Ape Escape 2 & 3- It’s not amazing but it’s unique and always enjoyed the core mechanic of capturing, getting new gadgets and the environments. We need more arcadey type gameplay. Everything is just cinematic now and bloated with cutscenes.

Kingdom Hearts 2 - Grinding alone was fun for me. Just got 3 in the mail the other day.

*final list*
  1. super metroid (SNES)
  2. GTA 2 (PS1)/GTA online (PS3, XB1/PS4, PS5)
  3. flashback (genesis)
  4. bionic commando (NES)
  5. tecmo super bowl (NES)
  1. love the exploration, “metroidvania” shyt
  2. love the total mayhem, knew the series would be a gem if it went 3D…online allowed you to take that mayhem to other players
  3. dope sci-fi game…very movie-like
  4. love that damn grappling hook lmao…bought a PS3 solely to play the remake
  5. first sports game I can recall playing that tracked/saved statistics…I was big on that
——————————————————————————————————————————

hmm gonna take me some time to compile 5 in order but I’m start with…

1. super metroid (SNES)
?. GTA online (PS3, XB1/PS4, PS5)
?. flashback (genesis)
?. tecmo super bowl (NES)
?. bionic commando (NES)

super metroid is definitely number one…not sure what position the others will fall in…will explain why once I come up with 5

*edit*

ok I have a tentative 5…gonna think on it for a bit more and make sure this is it

hmm I need to include GTA2 (PS1) but I don’t want to remove anything off this list as yet

Final Fantasy Tactics - Pretty much introduced a whole new genre to me which would would go on to become my favorite, and also introduce me to CRPG’s and a bunch of other sub-genres in the “turn based-isometric” world. FFT is still king of all of them.

Chrono Trigger - The game that really let me know that games can have complex engrossing stories on par with my favorite movies/anime. To this day it still has one of the best soundtracks and turn-based battle systems

Hollow Knight - The most engrossing, and surprising 100+ hours I ever put into a game. Its imo the greatest “Metroidvania” to ever exist and I honestly dont see anyone ever topping it again. Its the perfect balance of satisfying progression, responsive combat, and exploration, everything i love about games.

Dark Souls - Absolute game changer as far as action rpgs go. It combines the best part of tactical decision making of rpgs of old, with the urgency of an action game. It also has one of the best level/world designs of any game I’ve ever played.

The Last of Us 2 - I still think this games narrative, acting, and the way it continually throws curveballs at you to be one of the greatest pieces of fiction I’ve ‘experienced’. I have never had a game have me on the edge of my seat the way this game did for 20+ hours. Not only do I think this games writing is unlike anything else that exist in gaming, the mechanics and how visceral the combat is just creates a whole other layer to it. It is truly the first time I felt bad about killing things in a game and really felt for the characters in it long after it was over

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - This is the game I hope every new action game that comes out ends up playing like. The wide linear dense jungles, the “secret” ways to kill bosses, the way the game mechanics have a meta design functionality to them (snake being able to see longer in the dark the longer he’s in it, even if you turn off your console), the enemies, metaphors, humor, score, etc. It’s the peak of the Metal Gear franchise with the best cast, and why i will always consider Kojima to be a true genius creator.

Honorable mentions go to Bloodborne, Divinity Original Sin 2, Inside, Fallout 3, FF7, SSB:Melee

Edit—- didn’t even realize i listed 6, well MGS3 and TLOU2 are tied for 5

Final Fantasy VI
Was the first FF where I felt the story was actually great. Memorable characters, the Esper system was a precursor to 7's material system. Favorite villain of the series with Kafka. Memorable moments such as walking to Marsh with he overworked theme, Cyan's family departing on the phantom train, Celes' attempted suicide, and the three stage boss battle with Kefka. Best soundtrack of the series. The world of ruin with Celes was a nice change of pace to go along with Terra and the world of balance.

Final Fantasy Tactics
Most mature FF story at the time. Unlimited replay value due to the deep job system. Dedicated PC modding community to have new campaigns/characters. Some cold ass dialogue from Delita. The assault on Riovannes Castle and the events during and after that section one of the most memorable moments for me. Lots of secret characters and weapons to discover in the non modded vanilla game. the unique changing of grid placement in each level+different enemies makes grinding more fun than the previous FF's.

Diablo II/Lord of Destruction
Addicting dungeon looter that is the grandaddy of the genre. any dungeon looter today can find traces back to D2. Memorable environments such as the forests near the rogue encampment, the deserts outside of Lut Gholein, the Tundra of Mount Arreat, etc. Memorable bosses such as Andariel, The Summoner, and Baal. Lots of skill tree/armor combos to make fun characters. There's great mods that tweak the gameplay and environments too to give the game more life after you get tired of the vanilla one.

Halo:Combat Evolved
Finally got a well playing console shooter that controlled smooth as butter. Had a variety of environments and semi open ended levels. The Flood reveal on 343 Guilty Spark is still one of the most memorable gaming moments for me. Second half of the campaign has more of a horror tone to it. Great use of color palette and art design that makes characters, weapons, and textures look great, even today. Top notch voice acting from people such as Jen Taylor. Multiplayer is still fun, and I prefer its "less is more" approach to the sandbox. Maps weren't built with balanced MLG in mind, resulting in some will and wacky maps like Chiron and Boarding Action that you don't see in later Halos. great soundtrack with songs like the Main Theme, Covenant Dance, A Walk Through the Woods, and Under the Cover of Night. The PC version brought us custom edition, full of brand new campaigns, new maps, weapons, n more that's still active today.

Pokemon Crystal Version
Might be the biggest generation to generation upgrade we've seen in the series. Gen 2 added animated sprites, cell phone, radio, day and night cycle, Pokemon eggs, EVs/IVs, 2 new types(steel and dark), held items, berry trees, fully colored characters and environments, 100 well designed Pokemon that didn't clash with gen 1(shoutout to my guy cyndaquil), more secrets than the previous gen, more balanced gameplay(psychics no longer broken), a savings account, memorable soundtrack(Red battle, Ecruteak City, dragons den) and you got to travel back to Kanto after beating the Elite 4, which was a shock to kids everywhere. Cherry on top was the games ending is you fighting yourself from Green/Red/Blue/Yellow.

Marvel vs Capcom 2: Its Mahvel Baby. No explanation needed

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3: Never had a game that entralled me as much as this one did at its height most entertaining game to watch in terms of tournaments, even though the online was bad no other game had me doing FT100s on a consistent basis.

Chrono Trigger: Great Music, Great Story, also a Dragonball stan so seeing Akira Toriyama's character art puts on the top for me. Play through the game every year.

Golden Sun: The game that got me into RPGs Love the combat system with the Djinns and Summons also GOAT GBA soundtrack still play through this game and its sequel every year.

Unreal Tournament 99 GOTY edition: GOAT multiplayer FPS. Great Weapons, dope ass maps, godlike soundtrack, mods and mutators made this game into pure fukkery and I love every second of it.

Kotor- Best Star Wars story since the original trilogy, immersive world and awesome characters, great soundtrack, introduced me to rpg’s

Fallout new Vegas- immersive world, tons of replay value, awesome story, fun gameplay, unique and fun soundtrack

gta 4- Liberty city > Los Santos, soundtrack was dope, cars physics and rag doll physics were best in the series, story was engaging, random encounters were dope, (honestly it was hard to choose between this and San Andreas but I still play gta 4 to this day when I just want to fukk around or cruise the city in a gta game)

Skyrim- massive open world and tons of freedom equals lots of replay value which is one of my biggest loves in a video game

Mass effect 2: peak mass effect. Awesome original sci fi world, feels like a personalized sequel if you import your original mass effect saves, dope characters, lots of freedom

Pokémon Heart Gold/Soul Silver- It’s the greatest Pokémon game to ever exist. The ability to play Johto and Kanto while dealing with duo maps was revolutionary. The gym leaders were tougher (particularly Jasmine since you didn’t know about the steel archetype yet), bug contest and the legendary dogs who appeared randomly made it worth while.

NFL 2k5-Again the greatest football game to ever walk on this earth. To this day no madden game has ever come close to matching how good this game was. ESPN use of its ticker to highlight trades and other team scores was a full on masterpiece.

GTA 4- A) It was my first ever GTA game (my moms was hella strict about us playing GTA) and B) to this day the Niko Bellic story is better than GTA 5 and San Andreas (even though GTA San Andreas had better features throughout). Add the fact I’m a NY’er so I felt close to this version.

Tekken 3- Tekken introduced me to competitive game playing for the first time and I spent many many many hours going from college classes to dorm rooms playing with my team. Mastering my Baek and Paul was well worth it.

Mario 64-My game that my whole entire family played. Truly a perfect family game.
