I noticed this too.
Besides the situation he voluntarily put himself into ("marrying" a woman with seven kids, an immense financial burden and an immense emotional burden, he seems sort of "slow" outside of being lazy.
Its a little hard to explain, they both seem "off" but in different ways.

That lady is nothing like kent. She can obviously get sex, while kent can not. Kent is also awkward and there is probably something mentally wrong with him. That lady is not.
