Nah, there was like a 15 minute lull of that dude just laying on his couch or walking around. It just wasn't interesting.
Word. In real life, the dude probably did spend years laying around and searching google earth all day, but it's damn hard to translate that dramatic tension to a visual medium like film and make it compelling and engaging. It would probably work better in prose, so we could be in his head as he is going through this isolation and compulsion. But watching him stare at rocks, stare at his girlfriend, stare at the water on the beach, stare at maps, have a flashback, spout cliches to his girlfriend as they have sex, then stare some more with dramatic music playing just was not very interesting to "watch". It completely lost the energy of the first half of the film.

I refuse to believe that "speech" she gave ol'boy. That has to be some white savior nonsense that probably never happened in real life.

To be honest, the trailers for the movie looked like white savior garbage, themselves, which is why I had no interest in it. Was it?

I thought the ending was powerful as hell. I don't cry at films usually, but this got me good.
I liked it a LOT more before Dev Patel showed up and it turned into an English language film. I had to :lolbron: at him wanting to go into Hotel Management after all those Best Exotic Marigold Hotel movies.

Breh couldn't speak the native tongue in the reunion scene with his mother? :picard: Learn the damn language Dev :hhh:

3-3.5/5

He left India at a young age, and spent most of his years growing up Australia. It makes sense he doesn't remember the language that well. You have to be constantly speaking and reading a language in order for it remain crisp in your head.
