I don't think anyone can convince me that City of God was better than A Prophet, or Carlos: a miniseries, or Mesrine, or The Baader Meinhof Complex, or Che, or City of Life and Death......

There are literally dozens of movies in the last 15 years I could name that were better.

City of God is just this generation's "Scarface"...where people will take a good movie and give it legendary status because of its cult following.

It's all opinions, I get that.
But I don't buy it.
cool

Getting hoes to choose has nothing to do with falling in love.

Breh was a damn virgin. :mjlol:

you really don't recall what was said to him.
When he became lil ze do you.

Most overrated movie I've ever seen.

I'd give it at 6 out of 10, tops.
It was just violence for the sake of violence.

Talk shyt about the best gangsta movie villain in history, breh.
talk shyt about the best movie ever made, breh.

Lil Di'ce and Steak with Fries might be the only other ones that ended up working after. They had their own spinoff, City of Men on TV for 4 years, then they got their own movie.

Yeah I seen Lil Dice on City of Men and variety shows in Brazil. Actually I saw the shortie who was trying to run away with dude in the beginning of the movie but he got murked by the police (the actor who also played Bennie lol)...she was in City of Men, a show called Salve Jorge not too long ago, but they not making a lot of money off these roles. She still lives in a favela called Vidigal.

KungFu Fighting & kicks that are fast as Lightning
Brazil is racist as fukk. Even though they have the largest black population outside of Africa, you would never know that from watching Brazilian television. If they had a better infrastructure and more money, black folks out there could be making their own movies with dope stories - and I don't just mean hood shyt.

It's a shame because their black actors are quite dope and mad intelligent, but they have it even worse than the U.S.A. It must be a real mind fukk knowing you were a character in a masterpiece of a movie but still struggling like everyone else only a few years down the line. :smh:

same thing applies to India, Thailand, Philippians, Ethiopia, Somali etc

majority brown/darkskinned populations but if u look at their billboards, tv shows, movies and magazines its usually light brights

but not much different than the good ol' U.S of A though

It was just violence for the sake of violence.

I'd say this description is closer to City of Men :francis:

City of God is a movie about violence for no other reason than a kid was a power-hungry sadistic killer.

It's not terribly well-acted.
It's not super well-written. It certainly didn't need to be 2 hours and 10 minutes long.

It's a gritty movie. I think it's good.

Let me repeat that. I think it's good.
But amazing?
One of the best movies of the last 15 years?

I don't see it.

It's not even as good as A Prophet (2009), much less the best movie of the last 15 years.

City of God isn't even as good as Elite Squad 1 & 2...which are two other Brazilian movies that came out since.

best thing about the movie is the stylized filming and story telling :yeshrug:
