Eminem said the same thing back during his MMLP run. While artists do have a platform and should treat it responsibly, ultimately it's a parent's job to monitor what their kids consume. That's the whole point of having ESRB and TV Parental Rating Systems. Not all forms of media are meant for everyone to enjoy, and that's why we have those in place. "Viewer discretion is advised", after all. But if you as a parent don't see a threat in that particular piece of media, then I have to assume you've instilled enough knowledge in your child so they're not easily swayed by the world.
...Or you just don't care, in which case...
Not my battle to fight.
In the end, artists have done provocative shyt in the past and will continue to do so as long as music still sells. Remember how people clutched their pearls at Miley twerking on the VMA stage? Or Eminem and Marilyn Manson having protests against them? Literally Madonna's entire career? This is the sort of thing they do because they know it sparks a reaction, meaning more attention on them and possibly more album sales. It comes with the territory at this point.
That being said though, I think there are limits and people should hold artists accountable if the messaging they're pushing out is toxic and destructive. Entertainers are here to entertain, not necessarily here to be role models, but it's also true that there's many people that will undoubtedly view them in that way. An artist's influence does have weight to it. But again, many of these artists don't ask for that, and people should take responsibility for themselves and what they consume. That goes double for parents.
Personally for me, I see his antics as one big troll and he knows people are going to get riled up over it. It's similar to what Tyler would do back in the day, and it worked every single time. It's not for me, so I don't pay it much mind and let those who it's meant for enjoy it. But that whole Satan's shoes thing was really fukking weird, and that shyt isn't cool at all. That's gross. When it comes to stuff like that, there
is a reason why people push back against him. Frank Ocean and Sam Smith don't catch even a 1/4th of the smoke Lil Nas X does, and there's a reason for that.
