somewhat off topic and a long post, but still relevant to the whole "showing up early, staying late" with this particular company
....
WWE as we all know still to this day files their wrestlers as independent contractors. that type of employee filing status is equivalent to a foreman contractor building a house and hiring everyone for the work (electricians, roofers, carpenters, flooring specialist, painters, HVAC techs, etc, etc.) with the understanding that the independent contractor will be paid for their particular job and they are only responsible for their particular job.
that foreman contractor doesn't expect and cannot expect the roofers to stick around and wait for the painters to finish their job. that foreman contractor also doesn't expect and cannot expect the electricians to be responsible for what the HVAC technicians do. they're hired as independent contractors for a reason. they do their job, they get paid, and they move on. in return they can get work again from the same foreman contractor if they do a good job, but they are also free to work elsewhere and that foreman contractor is not responsible for their future work/pay. it's a mutual and ethical agreement on both sides.
the WWE has somehow still found a way to get around this. they hire all of their other corporate workers as real employees, yet the wrestlers have to take the independent contractor route. which quite frankly would be fine IF the WWE actually allowed them to be real independent contractors the way the law intends for it to be, but they don't. the wrestlers are not allowed to take any type of outside bookings without WWE's permission and are expected to be at WWE's beck and call every hour of the day which in result makes their "contract" irrelevant. it's just a piece of paper with language on it because at any given moment the WWE can fukk them six ways to Sunday if they want to.
it's not ethical in this day and age and it's not right. no one is expecting the WWE to just give away money for nothing, but do one of two things. either hire the wrestlers as real employees and pay them better. or keep the same independent contractor status and actually let them work as independent contractors without the fear of punishment.
