Good question. I've thought about this a lot myself. Shyne had a very amazing voice and rhyming ability. His flow was very sharp. But the fact is he was successful cause of his similarities to Biggie vocally. Shyne was actually discovered by one of Biggie's longtime Producers Clark Kent who produced several of Biggie Classics. My hypothesis would be it could of gone two ways. Biggie could of dismissed Shyne for sounding to much like him (Lil Kim ended up dissing Shyne for that very thing) or with Clark Kent urging, Biggie would got a kick out of Shyne's similarities to him and they would of done some "Gimmie the Loot" type multiple personality song collabos.
Honestly Listening to Shyne's album I felt Big's energy on a few tracks as far as flow, style as well as sound. Ironically the last song on Shyne's album is called "The Commission" and the beat was produced by one of the Hitmen and longtime Biggie Collaborator Nasheim Mavrick. Which leads to me believe it may have been a beat he was thinking of giving Biggie for "The Commission" album. A few beats on Shyne's album was tailor made for Biggie's flow including "Bad Boyz", "Bang" and "Die". But when I heard "The Commission" I felt Shyne was channeling Biggie for sure, even the hook sounded like something Biggie would say:
"Die for it, get on the stand lie for it, blow trail
get up in the chair fry for it, never turn into snitchin
rather swin with the fishin, mothafukka respect it, THE COMMISSION, UHH"
When I heard that, I seriously thought Puffy gave Shyne a secret Biggie rhyme book, lol. Shyne even starts the song with Biggie's trademark "Uhh, Yeah" adlibs. Also for the record, this timeline I presented is from Biggie's death 97 up to the year 2000. I've gotten questions about Biggie past that point and honestly his plans were for the next 3 years after his Sophomore album came out. People have to remember, Biggie died before his 2nd album, he only released 1 solo album during his lifetime he was literally at the beginning of his career.
