Yall know what I'm talking about, the dude that killed his mom for that insurance money so he could make it rain. That's what is getting lost in all of this.

We always talk about the girls who attention whore online but what about the men?s Wale said it the best though, "nikkas be bytches, hoes be bytches I dont see no difference." I contend that men are just as bad online if not just a little better. Social networks don't just warp the dating game and tip the scales but they turn everyone into local celebs. With that comes the wannabe celebs and the travesties that occurred in this story:

People (men, women, black, white, yellow, brown, teenaged, middleaged) are out here committing fukkery out of boredom just so they can stunt online. All the while they are making these often white/asian/indian programmers billionaires the honest way. At this rate the gap will only lengthen concerning the evolution of blacks and other races. Think about that for a second. The second I heard the snapchat creators were almost given $3 Billion for their company I knew that this shyt got out of hand. Shameful.

yea and whats funny is if social media was used progressively, it has the potential to topple regimes and be counterhegemonic...but unfortunately, it has exacerbated white supremacy and corporatism in the grossest ways...people really underestimate how powerful a revolutionary tool social media can be but like OP said, we are using it for superficial reasons...the question is how do we reverse this trend and make social media helpful in reversing some facets of white supremacy

The multi billion dollar question fam. Its ingrained at this point. It's just a question of what can supplant it. 20 years from now I can almost guarantee that nobody will give a shyt about Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr etc as we know it unless they diversify to become mass media companies and shyt.

Our boredom is being commoditized and its ridiculous. You can say that for damn near anything (movies, video games etc.) but at least there is something substantive behind those media. Social media however? For the civilian it's become foolishness.

It's hard to fix this, a lot of people want to be in the spotlight just like their favorite celebrities. Maybe if we didn't have so much exposure on them it could change things. They will find a way to achieve status since they don't have the actual talent to do it themselves. Also technology makes is extremely easy these days, a lot of people can create a e-mail in a few seconds, sign up to YouTube and create a vid with their phones.

Also we keep feeding into that shyt, like that sharkeshia vid, everyone was all :gladbron: over it

fukk your main topic let's talk about this snapchat money

U telling me all of us in the locker room can't come up with an idea that makes 3 billi? I wouldn't be mad with 1 mil from that
Breh, you don't think I'm tryna eat off this social media money? I have an idea that is useful, attention whore proof in the infancy stages. It's just a shame I dont have the computer/software programming skills. If I dont land a job out of school in the first six months though I'm making it a reality. Two ideas actually but one would have to cut in Live Nation/Music labels . My closest friends are on board we gon get this money :mjpls:

Yea and it really is the biggest disappointment to me...we're talking about a global interconnected system where poor/working class peoples have the ability to communicate...think about that report where it said there are more cell phones than toilets available in the world today; although it is sad to say that, the availability of this powerful tool can still be utilized, but it will take complex and difficult steps to break this; so much of the internet and social media is built of consumerism and capitalism that its pretty much intertwined with social media...as blacks in America and across the world, our diaspora has the communicative ability to really blast oppression and mobilize. I think once the new social media giants come along, if they stay out the hands of the private corps (which would be difficult), then it they can be used to promote counterhegemony. thats another conversation though; we gotta work on right now with these twitters and instagrams now

It is values. That boy, valued image more than his moms life. People are valuing attention more than life and self respect.

It has been getting worse as years past, but social media has given us more access and a venue for attention whores. People use to do things for attention all the time but instead of being known in your neighborhood or school, people trying to go global. A self absorbed society. People want validation wonder where they aren't getting it from where they run to strangers :mjpls:
