A good portion of the coli hates Beyoncé because women love her. She will never get credit for anything simply because of that. But she is the best, she makes good music as well but ppl are going to continue to downplay her until the day she dies then all of a sudden she'll be great.
This. She out sells everybody and her songs are damn catchy. I say the quality of her lyrical content took a nose dive right around Sasha Firece, but she's still the top dawg.

She makes music that sounds like a girl in high school would write. Put her music alongside the legends that I name and tell me with a straight face that it holds up to their's :aicmon:

I'm sorry, but she's overrated. Good dancer, average singer (I don't feel no kind of emotion or soul from Beyonce). A bunch well below average written songs
She's been managed well as an artist and ya gotta thank her mom and dad for that foundation they laid because Beyonce has truly gotten over with weak material

lol oh God, here we go with music nostalgia "back in my day, they made REAL music"

Her songs may not have deep soulful lyrics like you want them to but that doesn't mean they aren't good songs. They make people dance, people sing along, and obviously people LOVE to see her perform them. They do what they're supposed to, so what's the problem?

This is my favorite performance of hers. :o: I always have to dance to it when it comes on.

Exactly, no one is saying she's some lyrical genius, but she is an all around good artist. Even though she does have some GREAT songs, she obviously mostly makes "right now" music. Nothing wrong with that.

I get it. Some of y'all don't know no better because THIS (the here and now of the present day) is all y'all know and y'all don't dig and go back and listen to ANY music that came before you. So if you've been raised on Beyonce, you gon think Beyonce is the best thing since slice bread

Don't even try it, I listen to nearly every type of music there is. Except heavy metal/that screaming stuff but w/e.

I didn't say she was the best thing since sliced bread and I was raised listening to everyone you listed and more, my mom was a HUGE Mary j blige and Sade fan but I have the ability to let artists be themselves and I don't have a "either you're like this person or you're trash" way of judging when it comes to music. I can listen to Beyonce and like her songs, then listen to Whitney houston and like her songs, then listen to Chaka khan and like her songs. Obviously you can't though.

I just like Beyonce all around because she's a great performer/singer and I like her music. And how many of those artist you listed are even still alive let alone making music? Why can't I like someone that's good that's actually putting music out right now?

This may be a lengthy post, so bare with me.

This is open to subjectivity, but Beyoncé is this generation's Janet Jackson. Now, is she better than Janet? Vocally, yes. As a performer? Ummm, not so sure.... Song catalouge? Janet>>>>>>>

As good as Beyoncé is, her music cannot compete with the genius of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. That isn't Beyoncé's fault. The times and the audience she caters to is a lot different than when she was growing up, ironically, listening to Janet. Yet, Beyonce is last woman standing or a cut above her peers. If you compare Bey to Janet(which most of do), then she may be average (or mediocre to some), but for this epoch, she's the best (IMO).

As far as tiers are concerned, she is ranked among the best in my performers tier. Here's how my tiers are set up:

  • GAWD(Singer/Writer/Producer/Performer.... they can do it all or the majority and has the longevity)
  • Great(Good/Great singers that are good at performing, but they're missing something. They can't be in the GAWD Tier... to be fair, most black artists are in this tier)
  • Good(Respectable artists that don't have the longevity and/or catalouge of the GAWD or Great Tier. Generally don't write their own music and/nor they aren't great peformers neither)

Then you have your mediocre and terrible, which I won't bother explaining.

It still would be difficult to rate because different people value different things from their artists, like for example.... Is a dancing performer like Beyonce & Usher better than a performer like Alicia Keys?

In my opinion, Beyonce is in the "Great" tier.

She's a hell of a performer, but I'm not at all a fan. I can't respect a black person who keeps coming out lighter every year. :yeshrug:

The legends had music that men, women, children, and the old had to stop what they were doing and jam to it. Beyonce just doesn't have that effect at all. The only people who listen to her are black women 40 and younger and gay men. Ironically that demographic is also heavy on social media so that is why it seems that "everyone" loves her when its not really the truth.

It doesn't compare honestly.

It probably has more to do with the time period than her talent because I like her Destiny Child stuff, but her solo work started in the early 00's when R&B had turned into utter shyt. She didn't get to enjoy the funk & jazz inspired and original R&B sound instead she inherited that neo-soul garbage :scust::scust::scust::scust:
This needs its own thread - because her Destiny's Child music was way better

Beyonce is an average entertainer who's songs and albums are a joke compared to the legends I named:pachaha:
