Soul On Ice isn't as bad as people say with the beats. they could have been better but i think they fit the style & are still good. it's fukked up that Priority fukked him over i remember bumping that Lt Dan mixtape years ago when he was on the run

aside from Nature of the Threat, this is my favorite Ras track...so mid-90s.

The production matched the tone of the lyrics but to me soul on ice is so lyrically engaging that the beats take a back seat regardless. I met Ras at a show, he wasn't performing but he was chillin near the bar, I gave him a pound and told him to keep making the music that earned him respect in the first place. He was humble but said he deserves more and should be seeing green like jay and snoop etc..that was his problem, thinking he could be some mainstream artist but that would never be his lane and it led to his downfall as far as future projects were concerned.

Thanks for that insight . It's sad that in alot of music the more technically proficient and creative cats aren't the ones to be highly successful .

Yeah its true but that's because love for the art turns into business and jealousy. Ras couldn't stand to see cats less talented being praised on MTV and other mainstream outlets. He felt if he had a hit that would be him. And it could have but it just wasn't meant to be.

Nah, for real. Rass was one of my favorite west coast spitters. I would have paid good, GOOD money to see him and Kurupt battle each other in their primes.

He was also one of the first artists to make me recognize just how diverse the west coast actually was as far as rap goes.

that Ghetto Fabulous song that had Dre on the beat and Mac 10 on the hook was a better shot than a whole lot of other cats will ever see.

Just wasn't meant to be.
