I was Knowledge Understanding when I heard Brand Nubian's One for All

You got to Know the Ledge to Wise the dumb
And Understand your Culture of Freedom
Power Equally with the Gods
So you can Build and Born your Cipher
All your life you must teach truth
Of the true and living God, not a mystery spook
And when you do that, pursue that goal
Which made the student enroll and only then you'll prosper

It sounded like a riddle to me. There was some hidden meaning in there that I spent months trying to figure out.
I was already rejecting Christianity so the true and living God not a mystery spook line had me open like what does he mean?
Power equally with what Gods? I get the build part but what's born a cipher?
Years went by and I was picking up bits and pieces from other tracks and Source articles and whatnot
When I got to college in Born Power I was online early. Yahoo didn't even exist.
Somehow I found and printed out the Supreme Alphabet and Mathematics and then finally it all made sense

The rise of hip-hop coincides with the popularity of the five percent nation doctrine across the city where hip-hop was birthed (New York City). And most of the early rappers were five percenters and the influence of the nation of gods on hip-hop can't be denied - albeit it's never celebrated the way it's supposed to.

So, let's talk about how the Five Percent Nation influenced hip-hop.
Im late to this thread by a few years lol
But it has always amazed me how the nation of gods and earths is never talked about.
People use the slang and their favorite songs got a bunch of knowledge in it but they barely know anything about the 5% nation.

When the nation ruled hip hop. We had more respect for ourselves and we held the culture to a higher standard.
It's nothing but buffoonery now

its crazy how most people don't much about the 5 percenters, but have memorized the words of the artists birthed out the 5% nation

If something like Twitter was around back then I think it would've brought more awareness to what was being taught. It's kinda like how Israelites are getting more shine now bc of Kanye/Kyrie mentioning them, then you see people buying dvd's and making YouTube videos talking about it. Info spreads faster now....

Im watching the clip that was posted above and im surprised to see the 5%ers impacted the south like that. its an interesting watch.
