ROH used to be a place where new Indy Wrestlers came to make a name for themselves.

Now it is a dumping ground for guys who just left WWE (Bubba, Cody), guys too old for WWE (Silas Young, Daniels, Kazarian, Sabin, Shelley, Caprice Coleman, Kenny King) or guys who are too Indyriffic for WWE (Young Bucks, Briscoes).

The final straw for me is that the two most vanilla, heatless midgets EVER who have recently debuted at NXT: Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly. These 2 can go in the ring, but can't cut a promo to save their life, have the personalities of a plain cheese pizza and are 2 of the ugliest motherfukkers I have ever seen.

If you don't know who they are, don't bother looking them up, O'Reilly was world Champ but only because Adam Cole baybay let him have a run.

ROH gonna be signing Greg The Hammer Valentine and Hacksaw Jim Duggan soon to fill out their roster :mjlol:

Also this is untrue since both teams make more at ROH

Meh, ROH stopped being the showcase for the new top indy talent in the last years of Gabe. I remember the running joke at the time was that ROH was always waiting for PWG shows to take notes on who to book next :manny:

Once Sinclair took over it became a really weird mix of veterans making a comeback, established indy talent and a few new guys that would normally get wasted. It's a shame they have so much money and don't do shyt to make the company better. I think the last time I was interested in the product was like 2012 :francis:

I remember following YWCers who would rant and rave about these generic ass dudes in ROH around 2012/2013. I ordered the ppv when Lethal won the title but besides that I've never been able to get into that shyt.

No lies were told, but at the same time Trips is killing NXT with this shyt too. That '14 NXT class was special because you had guys coming in (and succeeding!) that you were never going to believe were going to make it in the WWE. Then Trips got arrogant thinking he could just sign every indie darling on earth and make his brand flourish, but these new guys are all brought in on the idea that they made it in the indies so the audience will accept them blindly and they do nothing, absolutely nothing, to try and turn these guys from talented indie prospects into actual superstars. Why bother signing generic CAW's like Bobby Fish or Kyle O'Reilly when you have been utterly failing to get people invested in Roderick Strong for months now?

HHH isn't poaching from ROH. Guys have been taking pay cuts to get out of ROH contracts of years at this point. Dudes like nearly 40 year old Bobby Fish getting hired is definitely a symptom of HHH/WWE's hoarding mentality, but it's not like they go out of their way to steal ROH talent in 2017. In the end, ROH is and has always been a feeder system to WWE even when they try not to be, since they're technically the biggest indie company, and the indies are all a run off of and gateway to WWE. Dudes getting hot are always going to draw WWE's attention, as that's the entire point of the indies even going back to the 80s.

At this point, WWE is just grabbing up people just for the Instagram pics, though, and I full expect Fish to be either a trainer or doing absolutely nothing in in 6 months on TV. KOR I can't say, as I know Regal was super, super into his BOTJ with Kushida, plus he's a lot younger, so he might actually get shyt to do unlike most of the "name" indie guys hired in the past 2 years.

In the end, ROH has been actively driving away next level talent for at least 5-6 years at this point. One, their model is inherently built to have guys taken by WWE. Two, they've had very questionable management and booking ever since Gabe left, which is like a decade ago at this point. There was a time when talent had that same weird obsession loyalty to ROH like dudes had to ECW, but that was long, long ago. Ultimately, ROH lost their cache of credibility and hotness YEARS ago, only getting people to pay attention in 2017 when they get NJPW dudes on the card. The ROH MO for at least 5 years now is to book guys a year or two after they get super hot on the indies, then make them far less interesting than they are in literally every other promotion they work for. Go watch any random 2005 ROH show and compare it to today and you'll be hoping ROH goes out of business.
