shyt...that was my entire life before 18. As a kid, the only threat to my life and livelyhood were other black people.
Living in the projects in The Bronx in the 80's-90's, you weren't allowed to be "Smart" or you got beat up every day and worse.
So after getting my ass kicked a few times I learned to play "Dumb" and talk "Stupid" when around the less intelligent majority of people my age. When I got around adults I'd talk and act my normal highly intelligent self.
It's survival...
When you're surrounded by those of lower intelligence, you have to play chameleon until you can get away from them...which I proceeded to do when I turned 18 and graduated high school.
