WBA 'regular' welterweight champion Keith 'One Time' Thurman gave a breakdown of the upcoming mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. The welterweight unification is scheduled for May 2nd from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Thurman is technically the WBA's mandatory challenger to the Mayweather-Pacquiao winner. He holds the WBA's 'regular' title and Mayweather-Pacquiao will have the WBA's 'super title' at stake. The WBO/WBC titles will also be up for grabs in the contest.

Thurman expects some wild waters for Mayweather, but still sides with him to come away with the victory.

"I see Manny Pacquiao using his speed. We know Mayweather is very crafty, he's very slippery - and he holds. One thing that people don't give him a lot of credit for, is that he strategically holds a fighter so they can break and then he can get back on his feet and get back on the outside. I'm interested in how Floyd is going to deal with Manny's speed. I'm interested in how Manny is going to deal with Floyd's speed," Thurman said.

"I expect Floyd to pot-shot that right hand all night, line it up and fire. He's going to use the jab, a stiff one to the solar plexus like he likes to do, he will switch up his power punches. I expect Floyd to be on his toes and pot-shotting. I don't expect combinations out of Floyd Mayweather. I expect a lot of movement and strategic punching and strategic holding, and maneuvers to stay away from the danger of Manny Pacquiao."

"Now Manny Pacquiao throws punches from some awkward angles and I think that will benefit him in the fight. I think it would be wise for Manny to come in with a little bit of feinting and head movement. I think he is definitely a tougher opponent than Marcos Maidnaa. I lean towards Floyd [to win], because he hasn't shown us anything to doubt, to believe that he is still not the pound for pound [king]."

Keith Thurman has also called out Kell Brook in an effort to unify the IBF title . . With Kell Brook eager to take on a big name after his March 28th fight maybe we might see them schedule that first?

What do you guys think

Wait, Floyd has the super title and not the regular title? I thought he lifted that off of Marcos Maidana? Man wtf they need to stop with all these belts
That's what I'm thinking, I want Thurman to fight Kell Brook first for the IBF title and then the winner can take on the winner of Floyd Mayweather or Pacquiao so they can merge the division. Then hopefully the WBA can fold one of those titles. Two champions from the same commission in the same division is ridiculous

Amir Khan is also the Mandatory for the WBC..

I wouldnt mind seeing Khan/Thurman and the winner fighting The winner of Pac/Floyd.
Khan is one fight away from being off the proverbial radar, how many people is he running from? He needs a rematch with Danny Garcia. Thurman and Brook is a better fight. Khan would probably run from the Thurman fight too

Which is what needs to happen

The IBF title keeps getting overlooked Kell Brook is an all around better fighter than Khan and he's got a chin. If you look at their skill sets you'd agree that Khan is better in name only, Brook on the other hand holds that belt and although Khan has been running from him Thurman has recently called him out right after the fight with Guerrero so I'm hoping to see that happen. Then whoever's left standing with a belt would be the natural selection for the winner of Pacquiao/Mayweather

Good point. Kell brook would be a safer fight for Floyd, anyway.

The super title is giving when the WBA title holder has more than one major title, and once the super title is crowned the regular WBA belt becomes vacant again

You sound ridiculous... Amir Khan needs to rematch someone in a lower weight class when he's the #1 contender for the wbc ww belt?? :what:

Danny's already said he has plans of moving up, that's why he's fighting Peterson at a catch weight. Brook wants the fight with Khan, why would Khan run away from a title shot? . . I don't see him as deserving of this fight, I feel like he's just a name he's promoted well because he talks proper on camera

Also how is this handled when a fighter has two mandatory challenges from different commissions?
